Talk socks to me!

Thread Starter
I realized we have tons of clothes for baby, except socks. Seriously, there is a single pair of booties, but they're too big, and so this child is being born in a week with nothing to put on her feet in the cold NICU! There was, 12 years ago, one kind of sock that stayed on, and that was all we bought. I can't find them now.

In order of preference, this is what I'm looking for:
  • that they stay on!!!
  • that they come in packages of only one or two colors, so I'm not constantly searching for matching baby socks
  • cotton, or highish cotton content (no less than 50%)
  • and finally, affordable.
Help? Brands with styles and links would be very useful, as I can't run around searching stores right now, on bedrest.

Thanks in advance!

Gap socks are the only ones I have been able to find that stay on. They are socks - so they arn't terribly expensive.

I like the ones that fold over. I didn't have a problem keeping socks on a newbie, but the fold over kind seem to stay on mobile babies better.

they have the fold over kind at old navy, the gap, children's place, and carter's "bubble" socks. trumpet socks also supposedly stay on well, but they are more expensive than other socks and I don't really think they're any better.

I've been following your story I can't believe she's almost here

Gap with the elastic band inside the ankle of them. They are the best! I never pay more than a quarter a pair and really stock up while at the outlet.

Carters bubble socks are ok as well.

I've heard that Hanna Andersson's socks stay on, and their semi-annual sale is in June, so they should be really cheap soon. But I have no personal experience yet, so take that for what it's worth.

My mom got DS some socks that were just plain socks from Walmart of all places, I actually just bought DS the same socks in a bigger size, they stay on awesome. I think they were Faded Glory or something like that, plain, with gray on the heels and toes. I'm not really a WM fan, but where I live in the middle of nowhere there aren't many choices.

Hanna Andersson socks were the only ones that stayed on DS's feet.

They are $5 per pair, but they stay on, so I bought 3 pair and just washed them less frequently.

I love Old Navy ankle socks and someone got DD some Little Mismatched socks and both brands never fall off. The Little Mismatched ones are longer.

Old Navy- they come in big packs.

I also love the Gagou Tagou socks from B'R'U, they stay on really well, b ut they are definitely needing to be exactly matched.

I like the brands other people mentioned for a little bit bigger feet, like 6 months or so. For tiny feet, the only ones I've had stay on are the thicker bootie-type socks from The Children's Place. They come in two packs for $3.50. I have the Carters bootie socks too, but DD kicks those off quite easily.

Socks would never stay on my DD's feet. She had chubby calves and no ankles. The ankle "sports socks" from Old Navy worked well. And so did the fold over socks from Old Navy or Childrens place. But they only stay on if they are folded all the way down or pulled all the way up. If the elastic was mid-calve then they would fall off.

ETA:
Robeeze slippers stay on very well too.

okay- one of our best baby supply purchases was this bag of socks we got- at one of those big chain stores.(wall mart )
The brand is Faded Glory and they are called Girls bobby socks- for whatever reason. But they have fit my baby boy fine since birth. they are all white and plain and ( mostly) cotton and come in a bag of- I dunno- 20 or so- so you don't have to look for the pairs!! We just keep them all in the bag. Love them!!! They are as basic as you can get and they mostly stay on well too!

In the first months during winter I used footsies, now it is summer and he is barefoot all the time. He has a pair of Hanna Anderson Mocassins for walking around and they are great - soft and they stay on.

Honestly, I don't see the point of socks so far for my 7month old .

I like the thick bootie style that fold over for the first month. I've never had a problem with them falling off, not until their getting too small. Otherwise I like GAP socks, they never fall off. I have a pair with a nice tight elastic on the top, I think they were from Target but then they were colorful and had a pattern on each (but they are a bit too tight for chunky legs).

Old navy triple roll socks did the trick for us. The standard newborn socks (even the pricey ones from Gymboree) would just pop off like rubber bands. I bought 5 pairs for $5 at Old Navy, but I think the outlets would be a good place to check too.

The only socks we had any luck with in the beginning where the standard Babies R Us bootie socks. They are no frills and come in a package of 6 (3 white and 3 blue or pink). Gap socks are what we buy now and they work great, but she had to grow into them.
