Vomiting only at night?

My youngest is autistic, and while she has some behavioral issues, health wise she is fine. She rarely gets sick and when she does she shakes things off fast. That's why this is so puzzling. 8 days ago she threw up at around 6am. We saw that what she had eaten at 6 or 7 pm had just been sitting completely undigested and there was a lot of mucus. We thought maybe just postnasal drip from a mild cough sniffle we had all had. No fever. We thought maybe she had eaten too much food too close to bedtime.

She was fine all day Sunday, good appetite, good spirits. Monday she seemed fine, but was sick again Tuesday morning around the same time. Wednesday she did not vomit but she started having very watery very foul diarrhea.

She threw up again either Thursday or Friday again in the wee hours, again lots of undigested food and mucus. We hadn't taken her to the doc because she was so happy and lively during the day and eating that we figured she was over it. We have an appt for Tuesday because it just keeps happening. Immodium cleared up the runny poop for a day or so but she just threw up an hour ago and she is sleeping next to me and I can hear her tummy rumbling very loud.

Any ideas what this could be? She is on a casein free but not gluten free diet. She takes supplements (probiotics, flax oil, etc.) but those never disagreed with her before. I am confused. Any leads I could research would be great while we wait for her appt Tuesday.

It could be a new allergy to something she has eaten but I doubt it.

Has she had a low grade fever at all?

Not sure where you are but there is a virus going around that lasts over a week. Most people have on and off diarrhea with it but some younger kids also vomit.

It sounds like it could be rotavirus to me. Each of my DDs has had a bout like you described, where they throw up about once per day or day and a half... always in the evenings- and the foul poop is always a give-away for us. hope your DC feels better soon!

This probably doesn't apply in your case, but I'm just throwing it out there. I recently watched a "Mystery Diagnosis" where a young girl vomited like this every night. After some time, it was finally determined, via study in a "sleep hospital", that she was actually having small seizures that were causing the vomiting. Hopefully your trip to the doctor brings some answers. Good luck!

I guess it must be a virus. It's just an odd one. Thanks guys!

We all had a stomach virus last month and that is exactly how it effected Travis...it lasted a little over a week for him, everyone else in the family had a completely typical 24 hour bug.

The doc said it's just a virus?
