Dog's collar ran and now yellow lab is RED.

UGH!

DH bought the last collar and it was a Ceasar-what's his name brand. Now it IS comfy and that's why he bought it. Ok. Well over the weekend Sam was in the water for the first time since we got it. Um, it totally bled all over him and now he's red.

RED!

How the heck do I get that out? How do I keep it from doing it again? Do I have to just buy a new collar?

To make it worse, he goes to his breeder's on Friday for boarding. I feel like such a puppy-mommy failure.

I've never had this happen before. Ever. Ideas?

Maybe try handwashing it and soak/swish it around in the water for a while till the loose dye comes out? Also, when I have dark jeans that bleed colour I often soak/wash them with vinegar the first time to set the dye so that may work too.

Guess your pupper will need a bath, it should come out of his fur. We had a similar issue with a cheap nylon harness that got wet when Chaos waded in the lake and she had a red striped chest. Of course her chest fur is white so it looked really funky. For camouflage you could always get a cute bandana to tie around his neck loosely. If you want a new collar I've liked the Lupine brand.

That happened to a border collie I had. The lovely white on her chest was pink. It wouldn't wash out either. It faded eventually, took a while though. I think I just soaked the collar for a while to get the rest of the excess dye out.

As a dog groomer, I've seen a LOT of stained necks. Honestly, there's not much you can do. They stay stained for a very long time sometimes. Just bathe him as often as you normally would, trying to bathe him more to get the color out would be worse for his skin and fur.

Oh yes. My family's border collie frequently had a pink neck. And my pretty white mutt currently has a grey neck from her black collar. I just live with it.
