bec, check the district's bullying policy. Every district is to have one, and they need to follow a federal "model plan." So I figure most should be similar. Ours clearly states that issues of bullying can be brought to the attention of teachers and school administration by anyone, including an unrelated third party. Consider making a report yourself (maybe with mom's ok?), and you need to use the term bully explicitly. If you hint at it, assume the teacher will infer it, etc, it will likely not get identified as a bully report. Under FERPA, the teacher likely can't give you any information, but you can certainly make a report.

And yes, best practices appear to center on having regular, reliable, unstructured, yet supervised play time.

mamas and for your girls

Nemesis ~ Glad you are feeling better!!

Mandy

Have I mentioned I'm single momming it? DH flew out on Wednesday to AZ for work. He'll be gone for two weeks. Next Wednesday I leave in the RV for NC with my mom and sister. At least I'll be busy... but I miss him.

I want to go for a run, but it's raining and no one to watch Val. Maybe my sister will watch her after she gets out of work tonight. I've been wanting to go for a few days...

jaygee~She will be doing an emergency medicine residency in Kalamazoo. They're moving this weekend!

for all who were bullied. I guess I'm lucky that while I certainly felt excluded at times growing up, I wouldn't call anything that I experienced bullying and can't really remember anything that I witnessed that even would have been. At least on the girls side.

XH took DS last night, so I got to sleep in and have a bit of a lazy morning. Right now, I'm just waiting for the geezers () to clear out of the Y pool, so I can go get a swim in, and then it will be off to Boulder to get my bike fit and hopefully get my aerobars put on, hooray!

Cool! Back in my working days, I helped develop the model of practice for Emergency Medicine for the ABEM exam!

What kind of aerobars are you getting? I took mine off last year when one of the springs broke and never got them put back on. I think I'll need them for the Endurathon Aqua Bike.

My swim didn't happen this morning since the dentist took too long . Maybe tonight after the kids are in bed. Tomorrow morning I have a 30 mile ride scheduled.

Wendy - Thanks for that. The mom wants to handle it out and away from the school. But, she also gave me permission to step in with the school when I feel the need, so I will bear that in mind. There's only a week left of school, and E is off today with her aunt camping. Probably not a bad thing for her. Anyway, we'll see how next week goes. My blood is up, that's for sure!

jaygee~I got a set of Profile Design aerobars at a tent sale a couple of months ago. They've just been sitting in the box since I figured there was no point in me trying to figure them out when I knew I had this bike fitting coming up. They're the middle of the road ones...$125 retail (but I got them 25% off). I'm really excited and a bit nervous about getting them put on! I have no idea how to actually USE the things, hopefully the bike shop can give me some tips!

Helloo baby growth spurt. It finally dawns on me why her and I have been eating ALL day. She's growing! Doh! It explains that feedings in the middle of the night last night and the copious amounts of food we have consumed today. Wowza!

Tomorrow she'll probably have to wear bigger clothes.

It rained most of the day here today, so I didn't get out. I did get my hundreds done though. If it's nice in the morning I am going to pack up V and the dog and go to the park where they have a short amount of hiking trails.

In the afternoon, my mom and sister are coming over to clean out the rv and get started on packing for our trip. Dear God, help us.

It's been quiet around here today....

I just fielded a super nervous phone call from my friend Amy (of the signature, which I probably should update)...she's racing in her first tri since the big C hit tomorrow morning, and she's having a slight freakout about it. I'm planning on taking DS out to go cheer...hopefully I'm not too bummed that I'm not actually doing it.

I drove all the way up to Boulder this afternoon for my bike fitting that I've been pretty excited about, only to get up there and be rescheduled. Sigh. It was actually really good service on their part, but it sucked driving all that way for nothing. As soon as the guy realized that I wanted fit with the aerobars on, he said I really should see someone in their sister store that specializes in triathlon stuff. So, I'm rescheduled for NEXT Friday now. Oh well. After next Sunday, I will have been to Boulder 5 times in 2 weeks, which is a LOT. Good thing Boulder's a cool place...

Good luck to her, Gaye. Oddly enough, I had thought about asking about her in my previous post.

Boo on the fit reschedule.

I started the day right, with 4mi on the elliptical + squats and abs before a 3-hour client meeting...followed by some crisis mgmt at work and a busy afternoon. Dd is off on an overnight, so ds and I went to Target to spend a gift card (his). He bought a pair of squirtguns so he and dd can have water fights together, and a game of Trouble. Then we played a round. I love both my kids, but I do miss one-on-one time. On the way home in the car, ds was trying to express just how much he loves me.

Hope to run long over the weekend. I really do have to find time to get in long weekend runs now that I am home with the kids. But I also realize that, with a board game, some reading and a coloring book, they could probably accompany me to the office in a pinch.

Gaye, I hope Amy has a great event!

Gaye ~ tell Amy the Dingoes say Go, Amy, Go !!!!!

Jo ~ that does sounds like a lovely day . I miss one-on-one time with my kids too, especially my middle DD who always seems to get the short end, no matter how hard DH and I try .

I'm leaving in 45 minutes for my 30 mile ride. I'm riding 5 miles to the Y from home, then the 20 mile ride with the group, and 5 more miles back from the Y. It's HOT and very humid already out there.

Huge hugs to all the Dingos that dealt with the bullies, and even bigger ones for the Dinglets. I had an especially hard time in middle school, and am having random freak outs about Court starting her new school next year. I know she's a far different child than I was, but I also know that she tends to internalize things and wouldn't tell me right away if something was happening.

Thought I was off call this week (which you would think would lead to more FM, but noooooooo). But Thursday at 4 am I got a call to my cell with a number I didn't recognize from a client due in July. Her water had just broken. She went to the hospital but wasn't really contracting, so I went to clinic in Seattle. At 10 I got a call that she was in rip roaring active labor, so I was suddenly very glad to be in town. Flew to her (luckily only 15 minutes away), her baby was born at 11:31, surrounded by the crankiest hospital staff I've ever experienced. Little J was 4 lbs 3 oz, was breathing on his own but whisked pretty quickly to NICU. Thank goodness for unmedicated births and tough as nails mama, we got her stable, fed and cleaned up in an hour and a half and by his side in the nursery. I hate seeing families start their parenting this way, but if anyone can handle it with grace it's her, since she is an OT that worked for a year in a NICU. She knows what she's up against, she knows the long term ramifications of what happens to the kids there, and she's very strong in advocating for herself and her baby.

It's finally sunny today, so I'm getting some coffee in and then will be heading out for a run. I've gone from 5-6 days a week to 2-3 workouts/week for the last 3, and the result is a few extra pounds and feeling like a bloated slug. I'm plotting a way to meet Plady for a run during DD's class trip to SJI Mon-Wed, hoping I can keep up and don't embarass myself. Then DD has a soccer game, I have to pack (for tent camping, which I haven't done since the 3-Day 7 years ago!) and figure out my GF food for the trip to coordinate with the group meals.

Oh, I also had my hair permanently straightened yesterday. I'm so in love with it (pics on FB), but can't wash it for 3 days. Yet I'm going to run anyway....probably a poor choice!

I promise, if I can survive the next 2 weeks with end of school stuff, I'll

Dearest children,

Your dressers are stuffed full of appropriate clothes for you to choose from. I place clothes inappropriate for the season, inappropriate for general play, or inappropriate for the general mood I desire of my family members. So please, when I send you to get dressed, please pick from what's in your dresser and don't climb up to the top shelf of your closet to dig out the cranky pants. And definitely don't get your penis stuck in the zipper. It just makes it worse.

Sincerely,

Mom

Now THAT'S an image!

I rode 30.14 miles this morning in the stifling humidity. Glad that's done for this week. Off to the Y with the kids for family swimming...

Oh, dear, Geo. because ds and dd2 both decided to root around in their out-of-season boxes in the closet this morning to get out their fuzzy feety pajamas. It is 87 freakin degrees outside. Not to mention they made a gigantic mess, 2 days before I need to blow town, and I am trying to pack. You wanna talk about cranky pants? Mine are ON.

Gah.

On the up side, dd1 -- after a not-very-impressive showing in the presidential physical fitness test -- decided she wants to start running more. So this morning she and I did a mile together. It took 15:30 of walk/run but she did it! We will continue. I promised her that when she can run the while mile without walking, she can get a 'real' manicure. I guess it's as good an 'incentive' as any. Sigh.

Then I went out and did an unimpressive 3.7 miles on my own, but man, it is so HOT. There is just no relief from the heat and humidity and I can't seem to get it together with a good run. I am so out of shape in comparison with a month or so ago, and it is depressing.

Geo ~

Jo ~ That sounds like a lovely day. I bet one-on-one time is hard to get with your LO's with DH traveling for work, especially.

Sounds like hot and muggy days abound, but not here. The sun may be peaking out here but it's been cool and rainy. I got V and the dog out to the park for a small hike/walk. It was fun - we got to see geese, ducks, and deer. The bay was calm and like a mirror... and the fog was lifting.

My plans have enjoyed the rain though. I think they have doubled in size!
Five miles of mostly hills, done and done in 50:52. Didn't really think about the fact that I can't wash my hair until Monday morning and I have to see people in a professional capacity. No hats or clips, either. Oy.

But I ran!
my parents are in town entertaining DS at their hotel pool. got my outside chores done and now i'm going out for a quick road ride to warm up the legs for tomorrow. Have to channel my inner Gaye and Kristina as I'm doing the bike leg of a sprint distance tri.

Think i'll try to have everything ready to go tonight so i can ride my bike to the race tomorrow morning. It's early though, and might be raining. so i guess we'll see.

having the hardest time finding kale starts for the garden, might have to just get some seeds.

happy running this weekend!
Amy rocked the tri! Seriously, she did awesome. And I was so happy that I could be there for her, since her DS's first tball game was during the tri and so her DH was there with the kids (although they did get to cheer for her once on the bike since the bike course went close by the field). DS had a blast with the cowbell.

So, is it completely idiotic to take a nap now and go out for a long (10-ish?) run in a few hours when it's theoretically cooler? Normally, that would of course, be a no-brainer, but I'm also meeting friends for a brick in the morning that will be about a 35 mile bike ride followed by a 3-6 mile run. Is that dumb on 12 hours of rest? I'm really tired, and it's pretty hot out, though...

ETA: Yeah, that didn't work. . But I did have a nice nap.
That Dear Children letter reminded me how much I love when they insist on wearing something from the stash of out of season clothes despite my warning that they're going to be too hot/cold, and then proceed to whine non-stop as soon as we get to our destination about how they're too hot/cold. Well, duh.

Mandy - kale is super easy to start from seed and it goes fast, too. I'm jealous that you can plant kale now, it's way too hot here to have it in the summer.

Gaye - so nice to hear about Amy's tri. I was wondering about her the last time I saw your sig.

rr: 8.25 miles over to and a little ways up my hill and back. I ran up the fire road in the hills and usually it's only mt. bikers but today there were lots of other runners. Would have been nice to run with someone, but they all blazed by me (on the uphill) like they were running a mile time trial on a track. Sheesh.
