Dingos Run in the Sun...Dingo Mamas June Thread! - Page 20

I love the race reports too! Even when the racer is not thrilled, I guess I am getting my vicarious event fix. I'm not doing any events this summer (looks like), so I'm getting what I need from the Dingo reports.

I did something strange to myself this weekend. I want to believe I just dehydrated myself terribly. I got home a mess from soccer, fell asleep on the couch and slept two hours. I never nap, usually can't, and I'd actually fallen asleep on a blanket on the grass between matches, too. Then, the next morning I could barely walk and every joint in my body was stiff and swollen. I had a voice in my head say, "this must be what rheumatoid arthritis feels like," and I felt panicked and bad. I drank a couple quarts of liquid and took ibuprofen and got on with it, and slowly the pain mostly subsided.

So now I am back to my usual arthritic morning hands.

Out of desperation, I left my kids with my mom for at least today, maybe tomorrow too. I have some work problems to solve and expect to spend the whole day in the office. So I'll hit the Y first and do something, though I am not certain what.

Gaye ~ and that is why there is a "first" race of the season, to work out the kinks! Two summers ago I panicked big time on the swim at my first race of the year. It was awful! But then I went on to have my best season of racing ever! Great bike split, btw, especially with all the hills!

mel ~ ugh.... you're heading back to the states soon, right??? Can you pretend to not be home? I'm not sure how I'd deal with that either.

We had a great Father's Day yesterday ! DH got to play soccer and and then WATCH soccer. Later in the afternoon we took the kids hiking at a local nature preserve. DD2 took forever because she wanted to pick every flower, look at every bug, and ask me what every treee was ! DD1 wanted to RUN! So I ran a bit of the trail with her and it felt fabulous . Kay looks like she has a future in trail running/cross country ! And the little bit of running I did today resulted in no pain or numbness, so I'm doing a walk/run this morning at the Y. So excited!!!

BTW, my sports med doc still has not called regarding the compartment test results from two weeks ago . I guess I'll call him today and see what his expert opinion is.....

Swimming lessons start today, and the exterminator . Damn ants...

Waaahhh.

It's raining here, for like the fourth day in a row, my house is a disaster, I need to grocery shop, my online course is offline so I can't grade or post my exam, and I found maggots in my outside garbage can this morning. Not like one or two, either, and they were apparently clinging to the lid because they showered down when I innocently opened it to toss in some trash. I squealed and made dh haul it out into the driveway, and told him that after garbage day, he is hosing that thing down.

Sigh.

penelope~ Shudder. Hope your day improves quickly!!!

I just realized that I never did get back to the moldy bagels in my race report. So...I think *part* (but by no means all) of my general blah feeling yesterday may have been related to fueling. I usually eat a carb-filled breakfast, and instead I had primarily protein with the eggs. That's my rationalization, anyway.

Oh, and jaygee...while that's a fast bike split for ME, it's really not very fast for this race. There weren't really any hills, just a slow gradual uphill for the first 6 miles. Out of the 1600 racers, at least the top 500 averaged over 20 mph! I'm still pretty happy with 18...I was hoping for closer to 19 or 20, but I'll take it!

I took advantage of being kid-free this morning and slept in. Ahhh. The rest of the day is FULL, though. I have to do some house-cleaning in preparation for MIL coming to stay tomorrow. I have to take a mandatory library tour for one of my classes (which I'm sure will be both good and boring). After that, I'd like to go to the open lab and run through some of the things we didn't get to during our lab on Thursday. And THEN, I have a meeting/interview for my old athletic training position. A new company is taking over the contract, and while I haven't been able to confirm that they need to interview me even if I'm only doing per diem work, I figure I better show up, just in case. I probably won't have much availability to work, but I want to be able to when I can, so I can earn some extra money, ya know? Oh, and then I need to come home and study for my two tests tomorrow. Fun!

Gaye- for sleeping in! It's such a nice treat.

I also love the race reports.

My run yesterday was ok. Hot, humid, ugh. And I crashed my bike on the way there (thanks, Myles!), and then during my run I tripped on him while trying to let some cyclists pass me.
I covered about 2 miles before I just had to quit and then we biked a bit. So, over 5 miles biked, 2 miles run.

My kids are being difficult today, Dh took the day off because he's feeling sick, and it's hot and muggy again.

Good news: Dh has a job interview tomorrow for a job within his office that he would love. So, would be appreciated!

Hopelessly, terribly behind. It's been nuts around here to say the least with all the end of school year stuff. But I'm incredibly excited to report that
1) Ellie is at my mom for up to 3 weeks! She went a week before we planned, so this week they are hanging out, next week they have clay camp, and the week after they will hang out again unless she's really homesick. This gives me both time to do some much needed studying, but also time to get back in my workout groove.
and
2) I ran today and it was glorious! 4.5 miles at just sub 10 minute pace, lovely hills and the perfect temperature. Considering that I've wimped out due to rain 3 times this week, it was very needed.

I did have my first "come NOW" call during a run last week. Preceptor gave me a heads up call at 9, I said I was going to jump in the shower instead of running, she said to go anyway as she thought it was going to be a while. I piddled around for a few minutes, headed out.......and 1.5 miles in got another call. Needless to say, the .75 miles back (took a shortcut back) was a PR, under an 8 minute mile pace.....I kept looking at my Garmin and thinking "see, I can run fast!". Of course, I felt like I was going to puke at the end and I also didn't stretch afterwards which was a poor choice on my part. Ouch! And to top it all off, since the mama was an hour from me, I missed the birth anyway, but so did my preceptor. I walked in, the first words out of the mom's mouth were "Megan, I only had an hour of real labor!" with a huge grin.

In other news, I finally got Courtney to the doc today to address her breathing issues during soccer. Went in still somewhat doubtful it was a real problem, walked out with allergy meds, an inhaler, instructions from the rockin new ped on a supplement to get from the ND, and some blood work to recheck her iron levels after the dismally low readings last time that sparked the discussion here about our own anemia. The good news is that she played harder today than I've seen her in a while, was way more aggressive and willing to move. Of course, that also ended in her accidentally kicking the keeper from the other team because she was moving faster than she expected (I was totally ) and then getting her own foot to the ribs as the other team identified her as a threat and decided to knock her around a bit. The true test will be the tournament this weekend....stay tuned!

Good Morning!

Memiles ~ I'm so glad your DD got some breathing meds that are working! That should make a huge difference in her play. Sorry you missed the birth, but it sounds like a super-fast one. Wish mine were like that !

Nemesis ~ to your DH for a good job interview today and an offer soon to follow!

Gaye ~ I've never managed a split over 19.9 mph. My dream is to hit 20 mph for a race. Maybe I can find a sprint course that is all downhill ! I'm happy with anything in the 18-19 neighborhood.

My run yesterday was okay. I did 3 miles of walk 1 minute/run 3 minutes. By 2 1/2 miles I was feeling numb on my peroneal nerve and achy along the fibular head, so I walked the rest of the way back. Bummer... . But I went back to the pool last night for a tri club swim practice and did 50m repeats, holding at :53-:55 seconds per interval, so that made me happy.

More swimming on deck for tonight.

memiles- wow, that sounds like a big change for her soccer playing! I hope it all works out well for her.

I have a few minutes, then a busy day ahead. It is finally sunny, so the girls will have softball (1.5 hours to myself and the dog!), then after lunch DH has his interview (!! ) then running group tonight, then an outdoor concert at the museum. Wow, busy!

I read some quote yesterday that I can't remember exactly, but was about our greatest strength is to listen. I'm trying to listen better to my girls... I can get so caught up in what we aren't getting done, planning, all sorts of stuff.. but I am really trying to listen and be more present today. It is going well so far.

Happy Tuesday, Dingos!

N, good luck to your dh! Hope the interview goes swimmingly.

eta: Man, 3m and my left hip flexor (maybe?) is totally aching. Dang. I have a half July 11, too. I'll have to ask my doctor for a referral to PT, 'cause this is not healing on its own. Really painful, although my 10 on Sunday felt pretty good...

popping in to say hi.

Nemesis Good Luck to hubby--mine just started a new job yesterday.

Hope all are well. Had my first pain free run after our 10 mile race--was having some achilies stuff it was stressing me out but I seem to be on the mend just taking it easy.

I don't post often but do check in and always send prayers and good wishes to all dingos and families.

Modmom

Nemesis ~ Good luck to your DH!

Jo ~ I hope you get it all sorted out with work. I take it you aren't getting the summer off?

I start running with my partner tomorrow at 9am. Woot woot! C25K motivation.

Anyone else excited about the Tour de France?! Team Radio Shack announced its members today!!
DH felt the interview went well.. So, we'll see!

My shin hurts and it's hot. I'm trying to feel motivated to go to the running group tonight. Hmmm... But I know I probably won't do this run tomorrow morning if I don't go tonight... Ugh.

I also put in a job app at Menard's because they had a Help Wanted sign with perfect hours for me (6-10pm). (Shhhh.. don't tell DH!) So, we'll see on that, too.

Good luck, Jen! You can do it! I really love running with this group, but I would rather just have a partner I think. I hope it goes well~

modmom- I'm glad your DH got the job. I hope he likes it!

Just popping in to ask a question - I've had a cold followed by strep throat, which I started antibiotics for on Friday. I mostly feel normal except for still clearing some gunk out of my head and being a little tired... I haven't run since the 10th (). Is it OK to just head out for 3 miles? I'm so out of practice; I feel like every time I get off my running schedule I have to start c25k again or something! Don't know why...

I'm taking DD to an all-comers track meet tonight. There are only 5 events, 2 of which are specifically for kids. She says she wants to do the kids' 100. I'll see if she also wants to do the 200 and the 400. I'm not totally sure if she'll ever be a runner, but I figure this will be fun even if it's not inspiring!

eks, if you feel like going out, I'd say go, but be ready for walk breaks. Not D1W1, but some breaks.

I did 50min on the elliptical, hard, this AM and then did abs and squats and pushups. Worked until 6ish, then farm store and groceries, then chores and late dinner. Tired. Kids have been at Mom's since Sunday. I'll pick them up tomorrow morning. But not until I stop at the office to pick up the banana I left in my desk drawer.

Jennie, thanks for the thoughts. I have to step in and help out. They're being really gracious with me. It was sort of a crisis as of Monday, so I have been in these past two days catching up some work that's at the critical stage. Now, with good communication, I think I can keep up almost 100% from home until we hire a FT writer. But we need to take our time and find the right person. Bright side is that I'm paid well and this could make us able to afford the trip to Africa in September. If I can stay in the moment, not stress and spread positivity and goodwill among colleagues, I will consider myself a success. I am not putting any expectations out there for creative outcomes. I also need to make sure the kids get their time, their lessons, their relaxation and their attention without my always being in the work zone or stressing them out over my work. I wish dh could take some time off, like one day a week, but he is booked solid with classes all summer.

Can't change it, so may as well figure out how to enjoy at least some of it, right?

Keep running, Dingoes!

tjsmama - if you are on the computer, any chance you could pop over to facebook and chat with me a minute? I'm trying to do my hotel reservation for Denver.

Good Morning! Another hot and steamy summer day here. Instead of going to the adult swim clinic last night, we took the kids swimming at a hotel pool where DS's best friend is staying. They are moving to Michigan today and wanted to spend one final time together (in spite fo the fact that she's pretty much lived at our house all summer !) Fun, but sad to say goodbye to good friends.

More swimming lessons, violin lesson for DS, and general running around today. I may try and get to the Y this afternoon, but I'm not sure when. Summer is busier than the school year, I swear!
I'm a bad dingo! I skipped running group last night because it was just too hot.. It is suppose to be cooler today, so maybe tonight I will be able to get out.
I am trying to get a hold of a chi running instructor in Minneapolis to see if we could meet up while I'm in town, but no luck so far. I think it would be cool..

JG- summer is so busy here, too!

Track workout done: pre-race workout of 400 strong, 200 recovery, 200 hard, walk/water recovery. X 4. I didn't run particularly hard.

Taking DS and MIL out for a bike ride in just a bit. It's going to be a crazy day, although I didn't plan it that way...track, bike ride, costco, hair cut, grocery store. MIL is going to hang out at the nature center/trailhead while we go on our bike ride, hopefully she enjoys it.

Tough day at school yesterday, I didn't do very well on my patho test (well, low B, but that's bad for me) and I found out that our health history interview, which I thought was due next Thursday is actually due on Tuesday. So I have a paper due Monday, a paper due Tuesday, and I'm next week's discussion leader for the online class, so basically that means I have to write another paper for Sunday and for Tuesday.

Off to get ready to ride, hope everyone's having a great day!

I'm running and lifting and reading. I am also frustrated with dh and not posting so as not to air his dirty laundry.

Good morning!

Nemesis--Hooray on DH's interview!

DS has been sick with some coughing, sneezing, hoarse voice, fever thing so has been keeping me up at night. Therefore, no running in the morning. Argh. I'm hoping to get back on track tomorrow morning.

It's been nice to just bum around and sleep in the first couple of mornings of vacation, though.

Father's Day weekend was also my mom's birthday weekend, so we spent it at their house. My grandmother (mom's mom) is old and getting more paranoid and delusional the older she gets. She's decided that my dad (the most calm, sensitive, kind man in the world) is THE ENEMY and that he hates her. This weekend she blamed him for something that's upsetting her at her volunteer job at the hospital. Because in her reality my dad looks for opportunities to make her life worse and would go so far as to spread word to her boss at the hospital to be unkind to her. She made my mom cry on her birthday weekend. I'm feeling upset and helpless that my mom has to deal with this craziness.

Anyway, today my mom will be in this area to have her hair cut, so we're meeting for ice cream for lunch. I suppose I'd better shower and get dressed.

Enjoy the day!
