My 16mo DS has been sleeping with us since birth and I've been nursing him to sleep most naps and bedtimes. Now we have a new baby just a week and a half old. He has not been bothered by her crying although it wakes him up way too early in the morning when she fusses to nurse. The new baby is getting the best sleep in the house!
Well this is where the problem really is - getting DS to sleep. He went from one to two naps when DD came because of the early waking - which some of it may be related to newly emerging molars. I would love to nurse him to sleep but when I do, he takes forever and lays there with his eyes open. The strong suction he has also is really uncomfortable with my full breasts. So, we do that for a moment and then I turn him loose. He tosses, turns, cries, whines, kicks, mumbles, sings, bounces and all around struggles to go to sleep usually after an hour of that. So here we are - three times a day for two naps and bedtime, spending three hours total just getting him to sleep! A lot of times I have to sit there nursing the new baby or handing her off to someone to give me a break.
I have contemplated transitioning him to his crib earlier than planned, me sleeping on the couch with new baby, and even CIO at the worst of times, which I really couldn't bring myself to do but have considered it. I've read some of the posts on the NCSS and successfully night weaned DS before baby came so once he is asleep he stays that way. Oh yeah, and during the day, his behavior is off from the sweet boy he once was which tells me he is 1. adjusting 2. teething and 3. sleep deprived. We need some help! Any suggestions? Even if I should get a book that would really help in our situation or whatever. Thankful for any and all responses.
Blessings.
