Queer & Pregnant: June, July & August 2010 - Page 3

Osker - either way on the partay! I am infinitely flexible.

I'm jealous, I need someone to come move me. I was all gonna start packing today, and I even got boxes at the liquor store...but they only had two, and I was totally bummed about the lack of boxes, but it turns out I only managed to pack a bunch of kids books I recently scored at the thrift store, so I still have two empty boxes in the car. Packing is gonna take forever at this rate!

Oh, and I'm starting classes in about a month and change, so I'll be in the third tri by then, I think.

I'm taking a local queer class, hopefully with part of my doula-team, and it runs 7 weeks, so by the time it's done, I'll be just about ready to pop.

And I'm starting prenatal yoga this week, if they have any spots left, since I forgot to register until I remember to call them tomorrow (if I remember).

Tentatively joining you...

Hello everyone,

I am stepping in... Its good to finally be able to post here... It took so long !

Well... we did it. We got a very clear BFP yesturday, on a cycle that I was sure would be a bust. At least, my chart will probably help others hope on FF because its so wonky LOL.

DP's Due Date is February 12th 2011. Hopefully this little bean will stick around !

Hum.... I dont know what to add... I think I'm still somewhat in shock !

Coco - Congratulations!!! Hooray!!! Welcome!!!

Papa, try the grocery store for boxes. We got some really heavy-duty banana boxes there that have been great for kitchen stuff. We were also fortunate to have a cardboard recycling station in our apartment complex, so that's been great for boxes. Maybe you could call up the city and ask where you could recycle a ton of boxes... and then go there looking for them instead of dropping them off! I think this time was tougher than most for getting boxes though. We usually move around Aug/Sept and you can find stacks and stacks of boxes on the curb. This time around people were posting ads to BUY boxes?!?!? What?!? Some lady wanted $10... per box!
Can't really give you much advice on the packing part... I'm stalling rolling out of bed this morning to try to get it all done today. Grr.... Ugh.... I don't wanna!!

COCO!!!!!!!

YAY!!! I'm so glad you and DP are joining us!!!!

Osker - yeah, we don't have curbside garbage pick up here, we drop our trash and recycling off at the "transfer station" so it goes right into the crusher.

I've had good luck with the liquor store in the past, so hopefully it will come through for me. I don't even need that many boxes, mostly just for books.

Also - home depot sells boxes, at quite reasonable rates if you find yourself stuck! A'ight! Let's get packin'!

it's a rough time to be looking for boxes with all the colleges getting out! good luck. i hate moving and hated it even more when we moved back in february being pregnant. while it may seem like a perk to not be able lift things - it was more frustrating to not have any control over things.

i finally had a wonderful weekend of free time to sew and had a great time. i made new covers for a glider chair, mattress pad covers, and a bunch of fun burp clothes! yeah

Congrats, Coco! Welcome!!!

Hi Everyone,

I'm joining you too! I'm thrilled to be here.

I'm 4 weeks 3 days right now, EDD is 2/11/11. I've poas almost every day since we got our BFP a week ago, and I've been really enjoying watching the lines get darker. Because I've been out of town, I haven't had a beta yet--I'm going in tomorrow for that.

My wife and I have been together for nine years and married for two years. Like many of you, we're about to move--we gave notice that we would be moving out of our current apartment at the end of June, so now we have strong motivation to find a new place!

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!

Welcome and Congrats Escher!!

Moving the end of June? Boy there ARE a lot of us moving right now!
Good luck finding your dream spot!

osker -- we could do saturday. Q has a concert saturday as well (crazy concert weekend!). should be done around 12:15 or so, then we're free. It is Pride, if folks are going. Katie can't really stomach the idea of marching (usually with Q's school) or standing around for so long in the sun. Pool is better!

Papa -- you should check freecycle in this area for when you come to town. Often there are boxes to be found there...

Welcome coco and escher!!!

Congrats and welcome escher!!

I think I overdid it a bit this weekend. We moved a week ago and this weekend I shopped for about six hours at Ikea, installed and hung 5 curtains/rods, and then I put together 3 pieces of furniture by myself. I'm sore and tired today.

We have our anatomy scan on Thursday and find out the sex! I was dreading it because of how the ultrasounds usually go at Kaiser but my mom is the assistant to the head of the ultrasound/radiology so she is pulling strings for us. She had the head of the dept talk to our tech already to make sure it all goes the way we want, which is not how it usually goes! Usually (according to the pre-appt letter they sent out) they make the partner wait out in the waiting room while they do all of the measurements and then call them in when it's time to see the screen and take pics. I was really freaking out about this because of my pretty severe white-coat syndrome and because she already gets treated like the "friend" that's accompanying me and not like an equal mother! That's one of the many reasons why we've only gone to the doctor for this and won't be birthing there! So, now DW will get to wait quietly in the room while they do the measurements. Woohoo!

We keep meaning to sign up for something... our insurance even covers the cost.. we just haven't done it! I was attempting to get someone near us to offer a birthing from within class, but so far it's a no-go.. so we're dragging our feet. We keep saying that we'll wait until we move... but that's on Friday, so we better get it in gear!

What insurance do you have, I haven't even checked if my insurance covers it. I have Harvard Pilgrim. Off to google birthing from within.

AFU: third trimester drags along. H is having a horrible time with carpal tunnel. We haven't figured out what makes it better or worse at this point, so it seems to flare up whenever it wants to. We're learning that packing up the house is less a team sport and more a spectator sport for H, which is exhausting... but I did hire movers, so hopefully that will help. It's very strange to me that she's going to go to work on Friday and come home to a new house while I do all the moving all day. I'll miss the team atmosphere for sure!
Good luck with the move and I hope H's carpal tunnel resolves itself quickly.
We're keeping an eye on the the weather for next weekend. So far it looks to be gorgeous on Sat and possibly rainy on Sunday. Those of you who want to come to the pool party-- would you prefer possibly moving the it to Saturday if it looks like rain will be imminent for Sunday? Or a rain date of the following weekend?? We're flexible as either way we'll be floating in the pool most weekend days!
Saturday should be okay, I'll know by tomorrow, DW might be out of town Friday-Saturday and returning Sunday, but i'm trying to talk her into another day instead.

I wish I knew you needed boxes, DW spent hours breaking down old boxes last week for recycling, I would've saved them for you. But since that's over and done with, try craigslist, they have free boxes all the time. And in regards to moving, you can always have the cleaning person pack you and movers move ya!

Please post pictures. I don't know how to sew, but I know how to machine quilt. Was it easy to make burp cloths?

SIX hours in IKEA, wow. You had a busy weekend. Good luck with your anatomy scan!
AFU - I am so frustrated, it is IMPOSSIBLE to find maternity clothes in a 0 long. I can't wear dresses to work every single day all summer, September and October long can I? The bella band no longer works, 2 in maternity is too big, and a size or 2 up doesn't work either. I am so annoyed, I had a major crying fit at all the malls/shopping centers we went to yesterday. Oh and my belly button and 1/2 in and 1/2 out ALREADY. Eek! Oh, and the comments, everyone comments on how skinny I am and how I need to eat. I eat ALL DAY and I was skinny before I got pregnant and I gained 4 lbs, which considering what I went through is great!

WOW! Welcome all the February preggers!!!!! May your pregnancies be fast and easy!!!

to all those who are moving. I'm secretly jealous as our furniture moving has been all about rearranging our current space. The living room rocks but our bedroom, where Cate will spend the first four months at least, is a disaster. I would LOVE more room!!!! Hopefully though, we'll move some time next spring/summer because the apartment really is just too small for two adults, two children, and two cats!

AFU - We hired a doula!!! I am so excited and now so at peace with the fact that this will be a hospital birth. She teaches the Hypnobabies live class (as opposed to the home study) every six weeks, and has worked in the hospital we are delivering in, so she really knows her stuff. She is completely within our cost range too, which doesn't suck She also confirmed my gut feeling that this child may very well be early and come fast. DD came at 38w5d in 16 hours (which was vastly hindered by an epidural...never again!) and I'm expecting just as early (hopefully not earlier!!!) and between 4-6 hours since my first labor should have been closer to ten hours and if Hypnobabies works for me, well...they do average faster labors than most! I'm starting week 2 of Hypnobabies tonight and will be on that one for the next two weeks. As I mentioned earlier, furniture rearranging has commenced, and although there are still two rooms to go (ours and DD's), it's all just HAPPENING. I'm hoping to dig out DD's newborn and 0-3's, plus blankets, swaddling blankets, etc to start tossing a handful into the wash every week in the hopes that it gets mostly done before Cate gets here.

Yeah, I'm an overachiever at 27w5d, but I'm just thrilled to get GOING already, you know??

Welcome Coco and Escher. FX for both of you! I have finally stopped lurking QC, but I know you have both been really working hard and I'm so glad all that work has paid off for you!

Mistral, my belly button has been out for weeks already. At least it's a little more pointed down this time that it was with DS1, but you can still see it poking through my shirt. Ah well, it gives DS1 something to poke at and laugh about.

Have fun with your anatomy scan, Monarchgrrl! That is crazily ridiculous how the office runs things. I'd be seriously irked if my partner couldn't be in there for the whole thing, and I'm not one that's scared of hospitals or doctors.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome

I think the news is starting to sink in. DP's symptoms have kicked in all of a sudden and she has nausea, her breasts hurt and she went to bed at 8h45 last night which is extremely unusual for her. looking back on our TWW, I realize that the tiredness was already there but thats one that I avoided looking at because fatigue can be such a question of perspective...

DP is going for her immunity tests in thursday. She works with kids so those are important. If she is not immune, she has to stop working right away (which would be great for us because right now we travel between two cities and if she was off she could travel with me all over on my work trips ! - I go to cool places !). On the other hand, we sorta wish that she is immune because the baby will be better protected... she still gets to stop working at 20 weeks because of the risks related to her job in a battered women's shelter.

Our clinic doesnt do beta... (we hac the clinic from hell, it was NOT a good experience). Do you think we should push to get it ? We dont have a doctor yet so we dont have a prescription...

My aunt has given our little turtle its first outfits... she bought two pyjamas 2 and a half years ago (very pink and very blue of course... DP said if we have a boy we'll go to my aunt's house with it in the pink outfit hihihi). I was very touhed that she held on to them from the time that she heared that we were first TTC...

Gee... this post is all over the place... my heart is all over the place

Oh yeah.... just wanted to share this

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...b&id=521264032

Isnt it beautiful...

My mom is moving right now she she got boxed from a grocery store and from a pub and they had bugs in them ........... check them before you take them !

After that she went to a used box store, basically they have unused or slightly used boxes from companies and it was much cheaper than buying new boxes... Dunno if you have a place like that where you are ?

Ewww! Bugs in boxes! I once scored a whole pile of books from a burnt out building, got them home and found cockroaches in them. YUCK! I'm doing fine with boxes, liquor store boxes are perfect for books and dishes, and using the smaller ones is good because I can't make them too heavy. I'm not bothering to pack most of my clothes, I'm just going to move the dressers packed, and move the stuff from the closets on their hangers in my car. Easier that way. I really don't have that much I even need to box up, it's amazing how I have so much stuff but really not.

Coco - I can't believe your clinic doesn't do Betas! WTF? Do they do an early u/s? I think you should be pushing for it and a progesterone test...unless you're already supplementing, in which case, it should be fine.

Monarch - Again, WTF? We had an u/s party for my 20 week scan. I had my donor there and me and KJM and her little one.
