Blogging for homeschoolers

My 12yo is interested in starting her own blog and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good site (free, safety features, etc...). One specific to homeschoolers would be awesome, but I don't know much about blogging (I read other people's blogs randomly but that's about it). I don't think we'd like it to be "out there" for everyone to read yet, but I'm not sure if that's even an option? Any help or tips would be very appreciated!

My 12 year old recently started a blog on blogspot. It is very easy and very user friendly. You can also choose to keep it private. There are other blog hosts out there such as wordpress and homeschoolblogger, but I don't have any experience with these.

I use blogspot and haven't had any problems with inappropriate content or safety issues.

I've used Blogspot and Wordpress and prefer Wordpress. Beyond making a blog private or other password features I'm not sure that there's much for safety features.
