I got a *new sewing machine!

I've been sewing since I was about 8 years old. When I went to college my parents bought me my own Singer sewing machine, and I still have it... but last week my dh was out for a bike ride and saw an old sewing machine at a garage sale. It's a Wards Signature Sewing machine in a cabinet, with a knee pedal, has all 20 of its cams, all the feet and 4 bobbins in a case. We picked it up for $2 and prayed that it works..theory being that my dd could learn to sew on it.

It Does!! and it is quieter than my Singer, has a lovely stitch and I'm geeking out with joy. Now I'm not sure that I want to give it to dd. We've already made a doll pillow and I'm thinking about whipping up a few broomstick skirts with it.

I would really like to go back and give the woman that sold it to me a big hug!

...And I bet you want to give a big hug to your dh, too, for finding it!

Happy Sewing!

i wanna know more tho; you said it has a "knee pedal." Does that mean it is a treadle machine and runs without electricity? or whatcha mean, knee pedal? and what do the "cams" do? if you dont mind sharing....

it is an electric machine. instead of having a pedal to press with the foot, you use your knee - it is built into the cabinet. Makes me happy as dd2 is only 8 months and on the floor alot - really don't want to have to worry about pinching her fingers or having her press the pedal and make the machine go when I'm not ready for it.

The cams allow the machine to do fancier stitches (newer machines use a computer to do this). The cams are plastic rounds that attach to the top of the machine and modify needle placement as they turn to make the patterns.
