Fishy pool question...?

Hey everyone...

I still have some time to go but I'm trying to balance everything $$ wise and such... I really don't have the extra funds to rent a birth pool and was planning the fishy pool when it goes on clearance (I'm due in late Sept). However I'm concerned that it may not be deep enough... I am 5'2/5'3 but I tend to get huge in the belly during pregnancy.

Is there another kiddie pool out there that may have a bit more depth? Or should I probably be OK with the fishy pool? What does the internal depth come out to be? Is it the same as the la bassine?

The midwife we're working with says she can attempt to bill insurance for the birth pool. But I can't be sure that I'll have that extra if they don't pay it... I'm already going to be scraping to pay my midwife (as most of us are, lol) and I need to minimize additional expenses .... The kiddie pool is something I could ask my MIL or mom to pick up for me kwim?

Thanks!

I had a fishy pool... I am 5'2'' and got HUGE this last time (pic @ 38 weeks: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1926589_n.jpg ). The fishy pool was great. The time before, it was a bit too deep, but I was laboring in it sort of sitting back and my belly kept floating up in the water and slowing down my labor.

To give you an idea of depth, this is shortly after the birth (waiting for the placenta - it took a long time to come out this time around) http://likeabluecandy.com/gallery/sl...do?id=00000017

I just bought two of these one pools. One for the kids and one for me. I am 5'4 and it felt like it would be fine to me. Deep enough and wide enough. This one is 24 inches deep instead of 21. The sides seem plenty sturdy too. My preggo butt can sit on it just fine if that says anything. ( I am doing a hb in Early October). When I bought it. Not on sale it is $30.00 w/free shipping on Amazon.)

Thanks ladies! I'm going to go with the bigger pool... I need to figure out a liner for it though, as I will be loaning it to a friend when I'm done (we're about 6 weeks apart, I'm due first). All of the liners say it doesn't fit the Ocean Reef pool... Any ideas?

Now I'm off to send an email to my mom with the links in hopes she'll help me with my birth by buying the pool and the adpater stuff... It'd be wonderful for sure!!

Hey another nice thing about that pool. I let the kids use the second one this weekend and hubbie didn't get the valve in the bottom ring of the pool closed well enough. Oops.

But it was a good thing to see. The bottom ring deflated because the valve opened, he didn't push the valve in right. But anyways. No water loss and it was still sturdy on the sides. Disaster averted. That is reassuring after reading some of the leaky water horror stories.
