i am so proud of the dog

i don;t know why i'm posting this...maybe b/c only mom's of babes would understand.

i have a skittish pitbull mix. he's never been around kids and is pretty reactive when things scare him so i was really worried about the baby...but we also go way back and he's been there through really thick and really thin.

anyway, she's 8 months and he's pretty ambivilant to sometimes annoyed. if she gets too close to his bed he'll shoot me an exasperated look and walk away.

so last night the babe was in bed and my husband had him outside off leash going potty. then baby starts crying and i hear my husband outside yelling at the dog for running away.
turns out, when he heard the baby crying from the upstairs window he bolted around the house and my husband found him at the side door under her window trying to get in.
he usually doesn't react when she cries but in this case he was not in the house and didnl;t know that she was ok.

ugh!!!! this makes me so so happy. i love both my babies!!!!!

That is so sweet! I grew up with a dog and she would get upset when we cried too! I also have memories of her laying down next to me when I was sick and not leaving my room until I was better. Such good times.

so awesome! My 3 furkids are all really patient with DS and love to sneak up and lick him, but the middle one (my princess) wants to be mama and if he's crying hard she gets worried and comes near and tries to figure out how she can help. (mainly by glaring at me to do something)

Awwwww.....I had a border collie/lab mix who was super annoyed when DD was born. She just pretended she didn't exist, our other dog a german shepard mix acted totally different, she always loved kids and so when DD was born, she wouldn't come within 3 feet of her w/out our ok. She was like a wolf in a pack where the alphas have a baby and the other pack members have to pay respect to the whole hierarchy.

Anyway my collie mix one day did something very similar to your dog, she'd been really ambivalent about DD's arrival and just rolled her eyes at the baby, until one day DD was crying and I was in the bathroom. Polly(the dog) came flying downstairs, super concerned that the baby was crying. She came and found me in the bathroom and gave me the look like "what are you doing? The baby is crying!" After that day she was fine with DD, though still stressed at times(she was already 10 when DD was born).

It's funny our shepard didn't even blink an eye when DS was born, she just wanted to lick him all the time. She never did that belly crawl, submissive thing with him. Our other dog had to be put down last summer.....RIP sweet doggie.
