Transverse Lie

I'm still early. I'll be 27 weeks in a few days. At my appointment today, my midwife said baby was laying transverse. I've read that transverse is a bit trickier than breech since a baby in this position (sideways) tends to stretch out the uterus and make it tougher to turn, almost like it's easier to get "stuck" there.

I originally thought I wouldn't worry too much about sitting "properly" and doing any optimal turning techniques until about 32 weeks but does anyone know if it's more important to do it earlier with a transverse lie? Especially with baby #4 and a very relaxed (i.e. stretched out) uterus?

(I think the baby flips around all the time but of course, I'm not sure exactly. I'm terrible at determining baby position.)

I thought it was easier to get baby to move if he/she is transverse than if he/she is full breech. I'm sorry I don't have much to say-just anted to let you know that one of my kiddos was transverse until 37 weeks then he flipped his little head down and we had a great vaginal delivery.

Have you checked out spinningbabies.com?

try chiro and spinning babies to get baby to move. Good luck!!!

Mine was transverse at 27 weeks. I went ahead and had an adjustment with a chiro who does Webster technique. In my case, I was 90% positive that I had some major issues with the position of my pelvis. I felt like my pelvis was off balance, with one hip cocked... and it was (no surprise after carrying babies on that hip for 4 1/2 years!). Baby moved into an apparent LOA position within a couple days.

As far as tranvserse being harder/easier to move than a breech baby, I don't know. I think it probably depends a lot on the specifics of why baby is malpositioned, how s/he is positioned exactly, your pelvis, etc. Frankly, it was worth it to me to go ahead and try to deal with it earlier than later because I felt like it gave me more time and baby more room to move. Abd spinningbabies.com is a great resource.... even though the site is hard to navigate. Stick with it and you can ferret out all kinds of good info!

Thanks guys. I've been to spinning babies. My original plan was to stick with more optimal sitting positions around 30-32 weeks and quit lazy lounging then. Looks like I'll have to start now. *sigh*

I think I'll also do the couch tilt a few times a day and make an appointment with my Chiro for the next week or two.

My gut is telling me the baby is still making circles around in there every day, though. That must be pretty common right? At not even 27 weeks?

i am 25 weeks and my baby is transverse.. my 1st was head down by 27 weeks and stayed that way, my 2nd was not.. he was breech at 24 and 32 weeks (when we checked) and then transverse or breech (went back and forth) from 32-35 and finally turned head down at 35 weeks..

this pregnancy i've been seeing a chiropractor the entire time yet baby still seems to be settling into the same position as last time.. she has been transverse for quite a while.. i have just started to pay attention to how i'm sitting etc. planning to get the birth ball out in the next week or two.. either way, i'm not planning to 'panic' until 33-34 weeks and i've never heard that transverse is harder to turn.. but my transverse babies tend to go from transverse to breech quite easily..

So doesn't matter at this stage of the game. They are small enough to be transverse so they do it.

DS was transverse until 35 weeks. Between an OB appointment and an u/s (last Friday) 10 days later, he managed to turn himself headdown (and I didn't even realize it!).

I was occasionally doing the inversion exercise from Spinning Babies (although a stomach bug and some head congestion made it not an everyday thing) and spending some time every evening on my hands and knees, doing pelvic tilts, etc. I didn't do anything else interventional...

My OB said that its actually easier to "turn" (if needed) a transverse baby, rather than a breech baby, because its just a short quarter turn and not a full "flip".

I wouldn't worry terribly much until you get to 32-34 weeks. Baby still has quite a bit of room in there to move around! I know that's hard ... I was pretty concerned, as I didn't want a Section, and wasn't 100% comfortable with the external version (though probably would have given it a try).

Hoping for turning baby vibes for you!!!
