Next time, remind me to keep my mouth shut.

Just 10 days ago I posted that Connor had an ear infection, which of course was a bummer, but I also celebrated that it had been nearly 6 months since his last infection, and that in those 6 months, he had only been on antibiotics one other time, and that was 3 weeks before with strep throat.

I should have kept my [bleep]ing mouth shut.

The school nurse called me today, said that he had a rash on his hands and feet and that I needed to come get him. Now, he was camping out of state with my mom all weekend, so my first thought was that it could be almost anything from poison ivy to bug bites to ?? but when I got to the school, I saw that it was almost certainly Hand Foot and Mouth Disease. That was 11am.

He had a dr appt at 3pm to confirm it, and in that span of time, his entire body is now covered in a rash. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...3&id=634508169 Here's just his foot, the rash spread ev-e-ry-where, quickly. So the dr thinks that it is indeed hand foot and mouth, but also some other entero-type virus (because hfm doesn't often spread over the whole body like this).

So, he's on antibiotics still for his ear infection (which is still a bit crusty, by the way), and he has TWO different viral rashes.

And, to top it off, Ian spiked a fever around noon, so he's probably a few days behind in symptoms, I expect his rash to break out tomorrow or the next day.

AND (it gets better!) Gavin has had a rash for several days. It started in his arm pits and spread down his sides and around his trunk, so I assumed it was a heat rash. The dr looked at it and said he thinks it's a reaction of some type, asked me if I've put sunscreen or bug spray on him (no to both). It looks like a contact rash, probably not a viral rash, but goodness knows that with both of his brothers sick, he's next in line! Let's hope him nearly exclusive breastfeeding will keep it mild for him.

Fun times. Oh, and this is supposed to be the boys' last week of school. Guess they're not going. I missed nearly the whole day of work today, and I have to go in late and leave early on Thursday for appts with Connor (surgeon to check on his hernia, and IEP meeting). My work is so understanding, but I'm always so worried about all the time I take off for things like this!!!

So anyway, the next time I come on here and say how healthy we've been, someone remind me to just not say it, okay?

I think it's pretty cute too

Sigh...I feel better today. I was *really* frustrated yesterday! Not so much that my kids are sick, that's just part of having kids, but we were suddenly stuck with childcare issues because our nanny decided that she didn't want her daughter exposed to the boys. I tried to explain that first of all, her daughter was already exposed, and secondly, that's the risk she takes as a private in-home nanny. If she had any other job, her daughter would be in daycare and exposed to MUCH more. One of the reasons why we choose a private nanny vs a daycare is so we don't have to scramble to find childcare when our kids are sick, they can just stay home!!

Ugh!

But, we figured it out, my husband and I are going to juggle our work/school schedules and we'll be fine. But ugh, so frustrating!

Ian spiked another high fever last night, and it took hours for it to break. When it did he finally fell asleep and was still zonked out this morning when I left (really early) for work. Connor slept all night, which is unlike him. Gavin is still looking and acting perfectly fine, except that darn rash.

Is it a new kind of abx that he is on for the ear infection - because that looks like an allergic rash from antibiotixs - and they can take time to show up. My oldest is allergic to ammoxicillan and at about day 8 of 10 on the course of it - he broke out in a rash - just like that. Even started on feet and hands - then spread to the rest of the body.

wow, we're going through the same thing here with my 2yo, Al... ear infection, fever (with a febrile seizure in the office waiting room!), and then when the fever hit 105 last night, back to the drs. for an additional diagnosis of hand, foot and mouth! he said its that time of year again but still no rash for us... I keep looking for it though...

hope everyone is on the mend at your house soon, childcare is hair-raising when they're sick and I've got my fingers crossed my 6 yo somehow dodged this bullet... I can't afford another 3 days home!

best of luck

No, it's not a new abx, although I suppose he could still be reacting to it. The dr did mention specifically that he didn't think it was a reaction, but who knows?

Aw, I'm sorry your guy is sick too!!! My kids are on the mend (I think!). Connor never acted "sick", just that rash. The body rash is almost completely gone now, he still has a bit on his hands and feet, never got any in his mouth.

Ian had a high fever for two days, and his throat is really red, but no rash (yet at least). Ian had HFM three years ago (and really bad, too) so I'm hoping that he has some partial immunity and won't get any more symptoms.

Gavin still is covered with a rash on his trunk only, but nowhere else, and no symptoms of being sick.

my mum has recently had an allergic reaction to antibiotics and got a rash that looked very much like that she ended up covered in it.
