Hot dogs - Page 2

Yeah, we do hot dogs occasionally. I don't like her to have more than one or two in a week. She LOVES them and can eat 2 in a sitting. We had a cookout last Sunday and grilled hot dogs, she had one then, and then helped us consume the leftovers so I would say she's had probably 3 or 4 this week already but the leftovers are gone and I don't have any more in the freezer so it will probably be a few weeks before she has anymore. I prefer Ball Park franks. I just like the way they taste. When I give her a hot dog, she always gets some fresh fruit and/or veggies on the side.

We get our not dogs from Polyface. They're 100% grassfed, no nitrates/nitrites, and uncured.

I've been buying the Applegate Farms organic hot dogs once in a while when we need a quick meal. If I'm serving hot dogs when we have a lot of guests I'll buy regular Oscar Mayer because they are cheaper. Like when DH's family came to visit and MIL suggested we have hot dogs for the kids and a picky BIL because they wouldn't eat the BBQ chicken I was making, I didn't want to spend all that money on the good brand for people who wouldn't appreciate it. We had the Applegate ones when my mom was visiting and she commented that they actually taste like real food

No because of the nitrites, same with lunchmeat. I would give her nitrite free ones, but none of the stores around here carry them. Once in a while at a bbq or party or something is ok though if that's all they have. Her cousins came for a visit and I had to go to the store to buy hot dogs because that's all they eat, and I let her try some but she didn't like it.

Do you cut them up? I know they're considered a big choking hazard.

Hot dogs are one of the few foods my son has reliably eaten since he was about one. Because of finances, I bought the really cheap ones, but now that we went gluten free to see if it would help some digestive issues with him, we've switched to Nathan's. Honestly, I prefer the cheap crappy ones taste wise

Yep. I cut them in half lengthwise, and then I slice the halves into little half circles.

another applegate farms 100% beef uncured hot dogs here. she just had her 1st one a few months ago. she really likes them & she is tough to feed.

this weekend at a family party was the 1st time she asked for one outside of our house (she saw people eating them)...i tried to get her to eat the chicken or ziti, but she wanted the hot dog & i needed her to eat something before running off to play for the rest of the night. it grosses me out but i am not going to show up with a cooler of my own hot dogs everywhere there is a bbq this summer!
