What is actually in antidepressants?

And by that I mean, what is REALLY in them?

How are MAOI's and SSRI's manufactured? Are they hormones, or are they a type of drug derived from say, heroin or opium?

I ask because I had PPD with my first, BAD. My second I lucked out and didn't get it. I am considered placenta encapsulation with my third. If I don't do encap, I will do zoloft (which isn't even an ssri, etc....what IS it?)

I ask all of this because in menopause, alot of the drugs to regulate the female body are made from FEMALE HORSE URINE. Gross.

SO, what are antidepressants REALLY made from? Please help me!!!

Zoloft is indeed an SSRI. It's not based on any botanical or hormonal analog. Very broadly speaking, it's made from petroleum and a bit of chlorine.
