In my family we squat when going #2. I totally believe that it helps elimination and lowers our risk of colon cancer. We have a family #2 bucket that we use for pooping. The #2 is then poured into the toilet and flushed. Anyone else do it this way?

no, but I used this while pregnant.
I should bust it out and use it all the time! It is much better for you!

I agree that its healthier to squat while going poop. I've squatted on top of the toilet in the past for that reason and I used to be pretty consistent about it and would even do it in the restroom at work, but I got out of the habit of doing it. I should start doing it again though. A bucket sounds a lot easier than balancing on top of the toilet!

I agree it's better for you -- it also helps prevent appendicitis (squeezes closed the opening to the appendix, so nothing gets in there). I've also heard that just balancing on the toilet still doesn't get everything in the right position. How does the bucket work?

The bucket is rather simple. I bought two buckets for each bathroom, one big for dp and I and one little for the kids. We squat over the bucket when we have to go #2, dump the contents into the toilet, flush, and then swish the bucket with some gray water. It works so great for us. Dp wasn't sure about it at first, but now he loves it and has become it's biggest advocate

. He's been telling his friends and encourages them to try it when they come over
I'm thinking about teaching a class on bucket use at the local community center. Colon cancer is so terrible
I want to help others to prevent it.

But how do you get into a full squat over the bucket?? It seems a little -- high. I thought your legs had to be pressing against your abdomen in a full squat to get the benefits.
I went to that nature's platform link, and they actually say that squatting on the toilet is fine and does get you in the right position! Hmmmm....
Yeah, do you ever think we'll see the day when people consider this an option? That would be great. Thanks for bringing it up; you've got me doing it again -- I had totally forgotten about it! And the Nature's Platform link says that squatting reduces inflammation in the intestines, even without changing diet. That's so great! I'm on board again.
