intelligender

Hi,
I used the intelligender home gender test and was wondering if anyone else tried it. When I mention to people that I used the test, I get mixed responses. Some people say, "Oh, that's cool. They didn't have that when I was pregnant." Other people give a disapproving look and tell me they don't believe in it.
According to the Dr. Oz show, it's 90% accurate in lab tests but only 85% accurate in home use because people don't realize you can't have sex for 48 hours before you take it and you have to use your first morning urine.
I can understand why people would choose not to know the gender of the baby, but I was excited about finding out early, even if it isn't 100% accurate.

I think it's a cool idea, but kind of expensive given that most (mainstream) people will be getting an u/s within a month or two. If it was cheaper - say $10 - I might try it. Esp. since I'm eager to get knitting, and not willing to have this baby entirely in green!

I thought it was a cool idea with my first. I took it, it said girl. DS is almost 2 now. For what it's worth, it was fun, even though it was wrong!

Someone I know took it twice and it said girl both times. She just had a new baby boy

I found some of the articles in this link interesting. Bottom line, I think Dr. Oz is full of it. It wouldn't be the first time a tv personality was paid to endorse a product.

What actual doctors are saying: Intelligender test just as accurate as a coin

It's a scam. A company that marketed a similar gender/urine test, but offered a 200% money-back guarantee if they were wrong?....they went under because they couldn't afford all the money-back guarantees they were paying.

Cotton Babies sells this product. http://www.cottonbabies.com/product_...oducts_id=1424
All of the reviewers gave it 1 out of 5 stars. Seems like it tells you that you are having the opposite gender of the baby you are actually carrying.

Wow, those articles were pretty harsh RedOakMomma. Kind of disappointing, but good to know. Thanks for the feedback ladies.

I've heard if you've ever had a boy, it will always say boy. Also heard if you had a miscarriage it would be inaccurate as well for some reason. Bottom line, I wouldn't shell out that much money for it... especially if you are getting a u/s. If I did use it, I wouldn't go all out and buy only pink or blue, you know?

I had one sitting around from a year and a half ago. I did it the other day just to get rid of the silly thing. It said Boy. We'll see about that!

Yeah, it's a scam. There's nothing in your urine that can predict boy or girl. I wouldn't trust doctor oz, he probably got paid to endorse it, and who knows how many rounds of "tests" they did before they got one that gave them a result they liked.

It clearly said 'Boy' for me, I now have a beautiful little baby who is quite clearly a 'girl'
because we choose not to find out gender, i would totally do it, if it were cheaper, just for fun. I spend my whole pregnancy looking up all the old wives tales, and trying to guess what the baby is. However, i would not go and buy clothing, based off of what it says.
i think it is no more accurate than the "drano" test. LOL

we didnt find out for certain either, did the Intelligender just for fun. I had a feeling the baby was a boy and Intelligender just 'confirmed' my thoughts. It made the 'Its a girl' statement at birth all the more wonderful-id secretly REALLY wanted a little girl all along
post #14 of 21
I wouldn't waste the money on it either. If you want to for fun i don't see the harm but i wouldn't trust the results. I see no logical way that sex would be related to something in your urine. <shrug> If you want to know the sex a good ol u/s is the best way...they can even be wrong but after a certain point it can become obvious. I've had two with this pregnancy and on the second I really didn't need anyone telling me it was a girl...it was plain as day. It was plain as day with my second child (a boy) too. I had an u/s with my first (a boy) but didn't want to know but then broke down and had to ask my midwife when she was going over the u/s results with me. lol.

Intelligender Update

Well, the home urine test clearly predicted boy, but two separate doctors performing ultrasounds disagree. At twenty weeks, I clearly saw very well defined girl parts in a sonogram.
Hurray for team girl

Intelligender is currently in a federal class action lawsuit.  Here's the info from the attorneys for the plaintiff (website www.strangeandcarpenter.com):

Gram v. Intelligender, LLC, a putative nationwide class action arising from Intelligender's marketing and selling of its Gender Prediction Tests, which Intelligender represents will predict the gender of unborn children at a high accuracy rate well before an ultrasound or sonogram can do so. Plaintiff has alleged that the Test is scientifically incapable of producing a predictive accuracy that is better than chance, and as such, all purchasers of the Test have been injured by their purchases of useless products.

From what I can tell, its just being ivestigated by one of those law firms that seeks out potential class action suits, not currently in court. I get a wonky eeling about things like that.

I did it knowing it is inaccurate and just for fun. I dud the test correctly (no sex, no shaking, etc) and it said boy. There however is a little girl sleeping right next to me. ;)

I did it just for fun!  It was correct for me.  I did it after my best friend did it, and it was right for her as well.  I put no stock in it, it was just for fun to pass the time till the u/s.

FWIW, she got a clear girl result and I got a clear boy result.

I don't think any body should swear by the product. I took it not too long ago cuz my doctor told me that I could if I really wanted to know but just like it says on the instructions not to paint the baby's room. So I think it Ur choice whether u want to believe it or not. So I think if u feel like spending the money by all means its your choice and u don't have to listen to anyone. We thought it was just a fun idea to see if it turns out right. Its a little exciting some people got accurate results.
