Birth Control? - Page 2

in the beginning, there was a marked difference in my cycles. but i attribute the majority of it to the changes that occur when you have children overall. i don't have any terrible cramping and so forth though. whereas, before having my dd, i would be grounded for the first two days and sick as hell. not so much anymore.

i do agree that it seems as if you get the forewarning cramps 1-2 days before though. but other than that, i love the copper iud and am happy that i selected it right out of the gate after my dd's birth.

I had a copper iud, and was a bit worried about the possibility of more bleeding and cramps since I already had both. But it wasn't that much worse. I was really happy with it...

UNTIL it failed and I got pregnant with dd.

I don't know what I'll do for bc now. Maybe a tubal is my best bet, given that I can't take any hormonal bc (I get migraines with aura, and my neurologist said it would really increase my chances of stroke). But that is so permanent. Bleh.

Good thing there's no sex on the horizon for a good long while!

oh, okay, i guess i should admit i conceived ds1 with an iud i place. that was after 4.5 years of use. then i had one briefly between pregnancies, which i had removed when i was ready to ttc. and now i've been using it again since ds2 was born 3 years ago.

people thought it was weird that i would use the same birth control again (like my doctor, for example, really thought i should consider the mirena). it all fails. at least with the iud i can't forget to use it, or use it incorrectly. my ob-gyn actually suggested the mini-pill . . . which you have to take at the exact same time every day, or it doesn't work. that's the stupidest thing i've ever heard of for a NEW.MOM. anyway, that's my perspective. i figure if i get pregnant, well, that's a chance i was taking by having sex, and if it were super important that i not conceive at that time then i guess i would use a back-up method or not do it.

I could, but #1 I'm uninsured right now, and also, I'm now nonmonogamous, and they only recommend it for people who are in committed monogamous relationships, as STDs can more easily cause a uterine infection when you have an IUD.

still you would be using some form of protection from STDs, so the recommendation for monogamous contact really doesn't apply in my opinion. it doesn't hurt to use condoms and have the IUD in place for the future.
