Stop and Shop Scan It

Thread Starter
I just saw this yesterday (although it was started in 2008).

I went to the Stop and Shop and they had hand held scanners to scan each item as you shopped.

It was great because you saw the price the item was rang up at not just what was posted by the item. Also it kept a running total of how much you spent and coupons for different items popped up on the scanner as you shopped.

When we finished shopping I scanned my bonus card at the self check out, paid and went home.

Anyone else see this? What did you think?

I have seen it but not yet had a chance to use it! I love the idea of packing my bags as I go instead of putting stuff in the cart, out of the cart, into bags, back in the cart. And a running total while shopping sounds great as well.

I have tried it, and really like the running total feature. I buy a lot of produce though, and found the length of time required to weigh and process the produce really detracts/adds time and is impossible with kids on board. I should try to go without them more

When I lived in CT we used it ALL the time! I felt as though it was so much easier and quicker. The produce part was fun, my husband and I had a blast with the weighing and putting the stickers on everything. It really made shopping fun!

I tried it once. It took me longer to shop, but I'm sure if I used it long enough, I'd get pretty quick at it.

sounds cool, but it takes away the cashier's job. with all the outsourcing of jobs i like to use real cashier as much as possible.

I've done it and love it. Especially with a child, this helps with the long check out lines. Plus, my toddler loves to hold the special machine and gets excited when it makes a noise.

I also like the fact that I can pack my reusable bags myself. Sometimes I find the packing at the check out line less than stellar.

It does take away a cashier's job though which is tough to justify but at our local store the lines are just too long to wait on with a toddler in tow.

When it's just a few items and I'm alone, I usually still go to the check out lines.

Totally off topic, but whenever I see the Stop and Shop, I remember this show on in the late 70s/early 80s for those of you old enough....

Anyhow people sent in pictures sort of like Jay Leno's headlines.

I guess the sign for stop and shop was damaged. The S H O fell off during a storm and it said.....

Stop and .....P

i do my grocery shopping at stop and shop and i've seen these but been too intimiated to use them. what do you do at the checkout? do you go to express checkout? do you go to a regular cashier? our issue with grocery shopping is checkout. that's when my kids lose it. anything that makes that stop is cool by me.
oh and do you have to sign up for anything or register or whatever or do you just walk into the store and grab one and start shopping?

I LOVE them. I've been using it forever (our Stop and Shop was one of the first to have it). My younger two love scanning everything and check out is a breeze because I can just go to the self check out and be out in no time. It is also nice when I am not sure which item is the sale item and want to verify the price. Only two issues I have are my two younger ones fight every week over who gets to hold it first (we alternate by aisles) and when I get flagged to be audited which I claim always happens when I really need to get out fast. The auditing might not happen anymore though because it seems ages since the last time it happened. Pretty much what it is, is a cashier has to come and scan 6 items to make sure you scanned them. The audit itself does not take long but it always seems like forever to get a cashier over to do it.
