Early Ultrasound? Post here! - Page 2

Okay, at 6w4d I had my 2nd ultrasound today. Heart beat was right on at 142 bpm! We got to hear the heartbeat! Shush, shush, shush...such a gorgeous sound! Unfortunately, my doctor was out today so I got to see someone new (to me) he wouldn't release me so I get to go back on the 28th for *another* ultrasound. Sigh. Hard to be too upset! Oh, and baby has almost tripled in size from 3.1 to 8.5! Wow! Grow baby, grow!

Okay, let's see...who's next? Is it AprilMom on 6/17???

Mamas, when is the best time to have an early u/s? I certainly don't want to have one too early and risk not seeing a HB. Would 6 weeks be good?

My RE insisted that the heartbeat ultrasound be between 6 and 7 weeks. There should be heartbeat by then! It will be so exciting to see your babe's!

With my two kids...the heartbeat wasn't there at 6 weeks. We couldn't see it until almost 7 weeks.

My first u/s will be on 7/8. I'll be 8w1d. I'm so nervous!!!! I hate having to wait that long...I just want to know NOW that everything is OK!

I had my US yesterday at 5w4d at first nothing was there!! i was so worried my heart was racing out of my chest. then i got to see the most beautiful heartbeat ever and got to listen to it too DH wasnt there but i have another appointment today (i'm seeing 2 OBs from different hospitals) DH is gonna be there to see the little heart go swosh..swosh. he is sooooo excited and so am I for the second time

I'm trying to hold off until 12 weeks, I'm 6+3 now, so we'll see if I make it that far.

I think 8 weeks is the "norm" for the first u/s. It's a cute age too because they have those little paddle hands and paddle feet.

I had my second ultrasound on Sunday at 6 weeks exactly. We saw the heartbeat! We are so excited. After last Thursday ultrasound we were very nervous. Since our betas are really good we were up to 10, 950 on Friday we are now in the clear until 8weeks. If that ultrasound goes well then our RE will release us to our ob.

As for thoughts on early ultrasounds, I think they are a good idea if you have troubles conceiving or have risky pregnancies. It does give you a little peace of mind.

I had a dating ultrasound last week Thursday, and the baby measured 6 weeks one day. Seeing the heartbeat was awesome, to say the least! I don't think I'll have another one until around 18 weeks.

I had an ultrasound the day after confirmation with a hpt. The tech said it was way too early to see any sign of a pregnancy. They were looking for a cyst. I go back on june 30th. I think I am 8wks then. Should definately see something then. I'm anxious. I'm already a high risk pregnancy because I take pain medication for chronic back pain. I am happily on a reduction plan that should have me meds free in six weeks. They say the meds are fine for the baby, but I would rather not take anything. You never know really.

i'm having my 1st u/s tomorrow...i'll be 6wks 3 days i think...i'm extremely nervous, because the last thing i want to see is another molar pregnancy (or blighted ovum which is what everyone thought it was via the u/s) i hope to see a baby and hear a heartbeat...i would totally melt right then and there!

can you explain molar pregnancy? I've never heard of this.

A molar pregnancy is basically where the cells go haywire and multiply and multiply without there being a "baby." It can go so far as requiring chemotherapy to treat. It mimics a normal pregnancy because it produces hcg. It is pretty rare and like all types of pregnancy loss, devastating.

i had a partial molar pregnancy, which is a little different, but yes. my hcg levels dropped pretty quick after my d&c and was very lucky the tissue didn't spead to my lungs (cancer).

a good site that talks about it

i had my first u/s yesterday and from what we can tell there is a baby and not another molar pregnancy although going by my lmp i was 6wks 3 days but the baby was measuring in the 5th wk. going back in 3 weeks for another u/s.

My first appt is the 1st. We're not doing an u/s then, but I'm going to schedule one. I can't wait.

I had my first one on Friday, and measured 6 weeks exactly. Saw a little blur with a strong little heart going 124 bpm!

I'll be getting another in two weeks. Because I got pre-e in my previous pregnancy, they like to get a good look at how the placenta is developing. This world of early u/s is new to me - I didn't get one until 13 weeks before, when it was undeniably a baby! Still, it's cool to see a flutter of a heartbeat. Even if I can't see head/arms/legs yet, I'm sure they'll be there soon .
