...I have a friend who is expecting and her shower request was for freezer food...what was the best freezer food that you made, bought, or had a friend/family make?

I love stuffed shells and have found that they freeze very nicely

I lived off of Amy's Burritos for about two months.

I made lots and lots of waffles and froze them. I also froze casseroles and soups and quick-breads, but it's the frozen home-made waffles that I couldn't have done without.

they are yummy, easy to make, and last for several meals.

Oh my. My friend made me this kielbasa-lentil soup that was to die for. She said she got the recipe off allrecipes.com. It was amazing--she brought it to me in 3 separate quart containers. We were so sad when it was gone.

My grandmother sent soup over once a week for a while. Potato soup was my favorite. My other grandmother and DH's grandmother sent over meat loaves that froze well.

Before they were born, we made a tray of veggie lasagna that was AMAZING to have.

I uh, also froze waffles. That was awesome. I made pumpkin waffles with this recipe: http://smittenkitchen.com/2007/11/pumpkin-waffles/
(Unfortunately, there's a pumpkin shortage right now, so, you'll just have to use a regular recipe.)

I also liked quesadillas that I'd frozen in triangles and could pop in the toaster oven.

As per the forum guidelines, I am going to move this to Nutrition and Good Eating since it's not specifically a parenting a baby issue.

homemade burritos...each individually wrapped, so that they could be thrown in the microwave and eaten one-handed. Big casseroles are nice but sometimes you need something faster. Mine had sweet potato, pork, kale, onion, chipotles, cheese....sigh, I miss them. Next time I will make hundreds.

The lamb stew from this website www.exclusivelyfood.com.au I froze it in individual serves with boiled potato and pumpkin. Delicious, comfort food. And can be eaten one handed

a friend brought me pioneer woman's cheesy chicken enchiladas and they were great to freeze.

i really like freezing homemade pasta sauce. easy to boil some noodles and add sauce.

bbq freezes well.

let me suggest not taking her too much dairy-based stuff if she's planning to breastfeed. dairy is such a frequent issue with infants, and I currently have all this great food in my freezer that I can't eat!

I froze and loved meatloaves. I bought the foil throw-away loaf pans in the small size packed the meatloaf mixture into them and froze them raw. Then slid them into gallon ziploc bags (2 per bag). Pop them in the oven still frozen with a baking potato and 90 minutes later you have a great meal - add a little salad and you're golden.

Gumbo

and muffins. Easy to eat, thaw in like 15 minutes (on the counter--15 seconds in microwave), and they were yummy.

Reminds me to get baking on muffins!!
