need to be away - supplement with goat/cow milk?

Later this month, I need to spend 3 days away from my 13 mo daughter. My plans changed kind of late, and so I don't think I'll be able to leave as much of a supply in my freezer as I would like. My DD is nursing less than she did, but she still nurses 6-8 times a day.

Can my husband supplement with goat or cow's milk if he runs out of breastmilk while I'm gone? She takes breastmilk easily from a sippy cup, so that's not a worry, and she's a big comfort-nurser, so I'm not worried about her weaning (and I'll pump while away, of course).

Any input/advice?
Thanks!

Have you introduced either cow or goats milk before? I would consider trying some out ASAP to make sure it is an option for her. Can you also try to pump some extra before then?

Good luck!

I'm transitioning my LO (12 mo) to cow's milk during the day so I can quit pumping at work. Agree with pp's advice to start early and slowly to make sure your LO likes the cow's milk. Mine was interested at first, then declined it for a while, now seems to be liking it again.

those are really good points. My work is pretty crazy (busy season) so I'm lucky to find time once a day to pump, but I will keep trying.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Have you considered rice milk? DD has dairy sensitivity as an infant so I was drinking it and after reading more about the grossness of cows milk decided to stay on it even after she was fine with dairy. She rarely gets milk but if she does it is rice milk and I think it takes more like bm than the others, it is much sweeter. Good luck, I hope you both do well.

Does she eat solid food well? If so I wouldn't worry too much. I'd give her some options. My little girl likes cows milk but my son never did. He likes rice milk.

Not for everyone but... my kids love raw cow's milk (I think the taste is a lot closer to breastmilk than pasteurized cow's milk is). I was trying to wean and the raw milk made it a much easier transition. Raw milk is also much easier to digest than pasteurized milk -- i.e. you can use more nutrients from it -- it's a more complete food.
