Thank you for the help I tried to find that information on the site but didnt have much luck.

His D level was at 14.9 ng/ml.

That is extremely low as I assume you know. I would take 10,000 IU of D3 (use the D3) per day.

I got D3 (5000 iu's) for $7 at walmart. Please don't take the Rx. My Mom has been taking that for the past year and her level has stayed around 17, never went up.
Once I found out, I told her to take 10,000 iu's Vitamin D3 a day and see what her level is in a month.
She gets it tested again in 2 weeks.

D2 D3? which form is it when you buy multivitamins?

It's D3. You can't buy D2 OTC anymore. On a multi vitamin if you look at the ingredients list, it will say cholecalciferol. That is the Vitamin D3.
Usually there are only 400 iu's in a multivitamin.
The D3 I buy is Spring Valley brand and it says D3 right on the front.

YIKES!!! yes 10,000 ius daily for a while, then retest. optimal range is 50 - 80ng/nl. He has quite a way to go!
