Pregnant with multiples? Check in here! - Page 2

So I'm wondering if you ladies have been put on on or told in increase certain supplements? My OB immediately put me on another 1 mg of folic acid, ferrous gluconate tablets 324 mg says it equivalent to 38 mg of elemental iron I think they are extended release but not sure, and calcium 600 mg/ vit D 400iu combo.

This is all in addition to my very good prenatal i am personally taking.

So my question is is this standard? I was a bit grossed out by some of the inactive ingrediance in some of the pills and will be looking to see what better versions I can get myself. ( the calcium has sodium laurel sulfate and titanium dioxide in it, WTF? Why?)

I had been taking a good b complex, but my new PNV has so much b's I decided to stop, not sure if my stomach will like starting it again, but I bet it would be better for me than the straight folic.

Oh and the iron says take on an empty stomach if you can, yeah right, I ne er have an empty stomach and it says not within two hours of dairy, before or after, you got to be kidding, right?

I was told I needed extra folic acid. I also ordered FLoradix for the iron, on the advice of MDC.

Have any mamas had success following Barbara Luke's diet recommendations? I look at them, and they make sense, but it seems impossible! I'm almost 14 weeks and I've gained about 8 pounds, and I know I'm "supposed" to gain 20 by week 20. (or is it 24 by week 24?)

CONGRATS ADORKABLE!!! Yes I was put on additional folic acid, but not Iron. We have well water with high iron and cook exclusively on cast iron. So we held off on extra iron. I also will begin soon now that nasuea is resolving taking, calcium, mag, zinc and vitamin D.

Annette- It is 24lbs by 24 weeks andi cannot do her diet recommendations. Despite eating all day long, I have still lost weight. We eat quite healthy and lately its just not enough. Oh well... I will try but not stress over it. I have bigger issues to worry about. I think her book is a god basis, but the idea that if you don't gain that weight seems silly. Many women don't know they are having twins until 20 weeks. Then what for them? Now that I am feeling better I will try to eat better but for now I will just eat what sounds good. I really think we crave things because we need it Our bodies are designed for this, same with diet.

Sorry, Im thread crashing a bit. You might want to try Floravital instead of the Floradix. The Floradix contains Angelica Root which is contraindicated for pregnancy, probably because it's used sometimes when you have a retained placenta to help it detach. The Floravital is supposed to be Angelica Root free.

I have the bottle right next to me and Angelica root isn't listed on the ingredients.

They *may* have changed their formulation, but it looks like many sites are still listing Angelica as part of the non-medicinal base. I just did a quick google for Floradix and Angelica root and it brought up a bunch of entries.

Theres been some suggestion that it's not enough to make a difference, but the Floravital will do the same as the Floradix and has zero Angelica root in it.
I stumbled across the angelica root warning while doing some research on warding off anemia. I know lots of ladies take it anyway, but thought I'd mention it just in case!

I just want to do what's best for the babies. I did find her research pretty compelling about moms who meet the weight gain goals having 18-20% improvements in birth weight. But holy crap, who can eat that much protein?

I took a look at the recommendations and some of her papers. There's no way I can eat 3500 cal per day but I have increased my protein intake quite a bit. I'm probably still not reaching the 120-130g that she recommends but maybe around 100g. My pre-preg weight is only around 100 lbs and I'd gained about 9 lbs at my 14 wk appt.

One dr did mention that being petite increases the chance of prematurity. (And oh if I had a nickel for everytime someone has reacted with "YOU are going to have twins? But you're so TINY!" ) But overall my peri just wants me to keep doing what I'm doing.

I'm 30 weeks today, was measuring 48cm at my 28 week appt. I'm feeling very pregnant LOL. There are some things I can't do. Sitting next to the tub to bathe my toddler makes me feel very squished and sometimes lightheaded so daddy takes care of that now. Bending down to pick things up off the floor makes me very lightheaded and short of breath, but that happened with my singleton pregnacy as well.

Oh and I'm desperately hoping that whichever baby is working on coming out first has flipped head down by now... They are making me very nervous, even tho I know there's still time, i'm so afraid that they are going to run out of room!

Annette- The diet recommendations seem silly. I understand the idea of eating more calories and better diet in general. But holy crap. I eat ALL day long. Seriously and I'm getting maybe 100g of protein and 3000 calories. That's a maybe. Despite FINALLY not thrwing up all day I am still dropping weight. I've lost about 10lbs. Now I'm only 20lbs overweight so I do have some cushion but oh well. I"m not going to stress. I will do my best and I'm sure babes will be fine.

I think those studies really pertain to people who don't eat well in general prior to pregnancy. Diet is so much more beneficial to them, and those underweight REALLY need to focus on weight gain.

I agree somewhat with Dr. Luke but I think some of her stuff is skewed. She is also the reason the HUGE push now for delivery at 38 weeks, period. So don't get me started on that.

i started a twin pregnancy chat inside the Parenting Multiples, i figure it would be good to be over there and get more advice from the BTDT crowd.

come on over and check in, I'm listing by due dates so we can support each other as the dates come one by one.
