Experience getting lip frenulum clipped?

DS had a posterior tongue tie clipped at 5.5 weeks. We're at 9 weeks and have seen some improvement, but things aren't totally better. I've noticed that he doesn't flare out his upper lip while nursing; the LC and my ped agreed that it's a bit tighter and thicker than usual. I'm going back to the ENT that clipped his tongue in hopes that he'll consider clipping the lip frenulum.

Has anyone had experience having this done? Could you share what it was like and how things went afterward?

Not personally with our kids but have known mothers who have, the lip frenulum is easier than a ptt, although sometimes it has to be repeated depending on the thickness of the frenulum, however as long as you keep tweaking the upper lip up and out at each feeding you should be ok. Hope that it all works out for you - you're doing a great job, keep posting to see how you are getting on.

I'm interested to hear as well. my LO has a lip tie and the ent said they would have to use general anesthetic (), so i am looking for other options.

I can't imagine why the ENT said you would need a general for a lip tie - it really is a little snip with scissors, although it can also be done with laser - maybe s/he was talking about that - i would have thought at the most a local would be sufficient depending on the age of the baby.

exactly! but no - won't do it without a general in case they need cauterization. crazy. for my 6 week old that would mean an overnight in the hospital! this is a pedi ent.

i'm looking for a dentist now.

Went to my pediatric ENT today, and he also doesn't clip lip frenulums except in the hospital, under general. He says 3 out of 4 times, they "bleed like crazy" and need to be stitched. He felt that DS's was only borderline tied, and there was no guarantee that clipping would help. So he doesn't feel comfortable doing it.

I'm amazed maybe you could pop up to Canada to Jack Newman's office and get it done there - lol, sorry it just seems ridiculous that they are saying this; yes, the bleeding is more than say the tongue but it stops with nursing - I'm really surprised that they won't do it, or on a more serious note contact Jack Newman asking where and if he knows anyone - who could do this for you in a less interventionist manner - maybe worth a shot!?
