Is this weird??

I am pregnant with #2--37 weeks. My husband and I cannot for the life of us agree on a name if the baby is a boy.

One name that we both love though, is Jack. But the issue with that is that I have a kitty named Jack. He is only 6 so I imagine he will be around for another 10+ years. Is it weird to name our kid Jack too? I am not going to change my cats name, he responds to it and he is a Jack........

I would question whether the cat were loved more than me often if my parents, in essence, named me after the cat (luckily our cat was daisy and my name was nowhere near that)

Have you considered other versions of Jack? Like Jackson or Jacque?

I would try to find another name.

Different name than the cat for sure. You could actually consider changing the cats name something similar but different. The cat wont know the difference

change the cats name to something similar....or think of another name. i wouldn't use it no matter how much i loved it without changing something up.

Not weird at all, although I would start calling the cat something similar. My son is actually named after my first cat. I was told I would never have kids, so I used my favorite boy's name on the cat and then suddenly about 10 years later, I found myself pregnant and it took me a long time to make peace with the fact that my son would be named after a cat. I figure it will make a funny story for him someday.

We have friends who had the same conundrum. Their cat was Lola.

Now their daughter is Lola, and their cat is Nola.

I'd start calling your cat Thack or Mack or Zack immediately, though.

Good luck!

Haha! Well, maybe you can't think of a boys name because it's a girl! We couldn't think up boys names either & it turned out we didn't have to!

I think you could do it but I would start calling the cat by a different name. Another thing to consider is that Jack/Jackson is very popular & just me personally I try to steer away from names like that.

I have a friend who did this - cat's name was Tori, baby came along and was named Victoria, nicknamed Tory. No one batted an eye, although I think maybe there was some confusion about tori's toys....

Jack is a traditional nickname for John, so you could go with that, and maybe Jacquline for a girl? Jackie for short?

I don't think it is an issue for a child and a pet to share the name. Esp. a cat since it's not like you stand outside calling for it very often (I hope!). I think you could consider changing the cat's name, if that doesn't bother you too much. But in the end, name the child the name you want, and don't worry too much about sharing it with the cat.
