cannot watch a circumcision video

Thread Starter
how do you all feel about circumcision videos? personally i cannot bring myself to watch one. i feel too sorry for the babies. just the written descriptions of the procedure are enough for me.

my son is intact BTW. and i do think this slogan is soooo true: "circumcision: the more you know, the worse it gets." like, i was against circumcisions before i was pregnant with a boy, and after i had to debate/convince my husband and outright refuse to do it, and all the research i did to "prove" it to my husband... after all that, i am more adamently opposed to it than ever.

i guess for me, there's nothing to be "gained" by watching a video... it would only serve to give me bad images/nightmares in my head.

I too can not watch the videos. Even with the sound off i just cant. My son too is intact. I dont get how people can watch it and still go through with it.

I cannot watch them. My son is intact.

Heck no! I see no reason to watch that since I know I would never choose it. Yikes. I would watch it with my sister if she wanted me to (but I'd probably cheat and close my eyes for parts of it). That's it man. I started watching one a couple of years back (after I'd already realized I was against the idea) and started bawling before it even started. Then I stopped it 'cause, why watch that?

I can't watch them either. And, although I know they are instrumental in helping some people choose not to circ, I'm a bit troubled by the ethics of them. I mean, the baby didn't consent to the circ, but they also didn't consent to a video of them naked, in pain, and having a part of their body cut off circulating on the internet.

I have never watched one. I don't need to to understand the horror that is circumcision.

I've seen still pictures, and that's enough for me. I can't bring myself to watch videos.

I've only watched a video of a circ one time, and those baby's screams will forever haunt me. DH was in the next room and heard the screams and asked what in the h*ll I was watching.

Luckily for DS that was when I was pregnant with him, so I had my eyes opened in time to keep him intact.

I cant watch it but had dh do so and the sounds made me leave the room. Dh had no idea how bad it was like most people.

This...I will never watch another, but seeing this is what convinced DH and brought him over to my side

i've never gotten all the way through. i just can't, and for me there is no reason to. but i absolutely think a person should watch if they are considering putting their own child through it. the videos do have their place, horrid as they are. i always wonder who is filming it, yk? like who is so detached from what is going on that they can just stand there with a camera? maybe it was set up on the counter or something....

I watched one and I am haunted to this day by it.......really wish I hadn't

I watched half of one. Just can't do it. I'd rather watch 2 girls 1 cup (if you haven't heard of this, DON'T look it up! lol!) Just saying, it is something that pushes my buttons that I just can not watch.

Like eclipse, I also feel the making of the videos is just adding to the things being done to the baby without his consent.

If you're never going to circ, there is absolutely no reason to watch it. However, I think anyone considering circing absolutely should watch a video first. I never considered circing my son, and I'll never watch a circ video.

i never *intended* to watch one. last year this time when i was trying to help keep my nephews intact i saw parts of one in the Penn & Teller video. i was trying to keep the sound off & turn my head away when i thought there'd be something i didn't want to see. didn't work. i woke up in the middle of the night to the screams of that baby. even though i told sil this, she didn't spare my nephews

i agree that the video taping is just another violation of the baby. i hope that some good comes of it in convincing those who see it to be against it.

I can't. DH was pro-circ and I asked him to watch one and he refused. The twins intact anyway and a few weeks ago I posted about his apology. He was supposed to watch one during his OB rotation (paramedic school) and he couldn't stay in the room through them strapping the baby to the board.

I thought I should watch one, so I tried. I started it and ended it a few seconds later feeling absolutely sick. Reading the descriptions from nurses in my books has left me with nightmares and keeps me up at night, as has seeing still shots of babies strapped down.

I've never seen one either. I didn't need to watch to know that I was going to keep my son intact. In fact, when a practitioner told me that I shouldn't be with my son during a circumcision because I wouldn't want to see it, I knew then and there that I couldn't put my son through it. If it was too horrible for me to OBSERVE, then how could I in good conscience make a decision for him to EXPERIENCE it. Anyway, the more I learn about circumcision, the angrier I get that it happens and the more I believe that parents should be required to watch a circumcision video before they sign a consent form for the procedure. I bet that would put a dent in RIC.

they showed one in our birth class. I was shocked when the teacher said we'd watch it during break, and that no one had to watch. I felt like that poor baby went through that for no reason-- we should at least bear to watch.

Oh. My. Gosh.

I just went to YouTube and tried to make it through three separate videos. It seemed like each time the screams of the babies got louder and more desperate.

I already knew I wasn't doing this to any kid of mine, but that was just heartbreaking.
