U.K. government now pushing shingles vaccine for elderly

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) conducted an investigation into the disease and concluded that everyone between the ages of 70 and 79 should be vaccinated.

I figured this was just another money making scheme (or worse) until I got to this part:

The JCVI did not recommend widespread use of the chickenpox vaccine in children, due to concerns that it can actually increase the risk of shingles later in life.

Now that made my eyes pop open quite a bit. Perhaps the intent wasn't so evil after all. Wish we had a committee like this in the states. Thoughts? Just wanted to share

Occasionally having a National Health Service can work.

They actually added up the cost of increased shingles in the elderly vs reduced chickenpox in children and decided that CP in children isn't such a bad thing.

Plus, the U.S. experience shows that one CP shot doesn't do it, two shots may not be enough and we are actually facing lifelong CP shots now. That gets expensive if the government is going to foot the bill.
