Waiting to Adopt NON DDC ~ June 2010

Thread Starter
This is a "Non Due Date Club" for all the Mamas waiting to adopt kiddos, whether newborn or older. We can share our stories, encourage each other while we wait and be patient (or not) for our little ones to arrive.

Feel free to join in if you are waiting for a foster kiddo, a relative or an adoption in any stage. We're not trying to be exclusive at all. Mamas who don't have any kids yet but who are waiting to adopt or foster a kiddo are also welcome. Also feel free to chime in if you have previously adopted and have stories or advice to share.

Please keep this thread supportive and gentle. We all have different journeys and different ways of "getting there".

Hello All

Hi everyone. I'm new to this --- but thinking it might be good to have some support as we move ahead with adoption! After infertility, this is where we ended up. We are approved and waiting for adoption through an agency-- we are in all the programs from a race perspective, so our child could be of any race.

Just waiting now.

Erin.

Okay, have I got an update!

We got our referral on 4/26/10, passed court on 6/3/10, and we are just waiting for our travel dates to bring our son home (most likely end of July)!!

The timing has just blown us away. Everything has happened so much faster than it was "supposed to". LOL Our newest son is 4.5 years old and has the absolute BEST smile!! We are just a little excited

Keep up your chin up, friends! When it's time, it's TIME!

Still here and still waiting. Still feeling frustrated. This is our 8th month of waiting.

I have to stop myself from thinking about all the things we expected, the things our agency led us to believe were true until we actually got to the point of no return.

Don't get me wrong, our agency is reputable... they have been around forever and are the biggest/best known in our area. But, knowing what I know now, I do not think they are the best match for our family. I just wish I had known that before we were fully invested financially. So... we are sticking it out and waiting. bitterly, of course, but waiting.

Sesa, I'm sorry you are in such a hard place!

crpsmnwife, congrats!

We are finishing up the paperwork and as soon as the therapist gets the letter to us and Scott finished his physical Monday we will be ready to turn the rest in and get placed with a social worker! So far I have been really good about not getting a timeframe in my head for placement, I am hoping I can continue that... We'll see!

Sesa:

Sagewinna, it's an incredible feeling to turn in all that paperwork. I felt like I was throwing down the gauntlet and saying "OK universe, we really mean it!"

Sesa- I can only imagine how hard this is. I'm a week in- and already wondering why they haven't called me yet. But, I know that you will get your child- thinking of you.

Sage- Yahoo! I know it feels great to have all the papers lined up and checked off.

Still here --- trying to to pick up phone and call agency every day.....

The latest on us...my foster son's sister has moved in, and my homestudy update is finished. I *think* that we are just waiting on subsidy approval from the state, which could take months, then the consent from the state should follow. I'm *hoping* the kids will be an official adoptive placement before school starts so my fd can homeschool (here when a child is placed with you for adoption, you can make alot more decisions than if they are "just" a foster child)...so far things are going well. I can't wait to be done with the foster care system!

This is such great news! I'm hoping that things move quickly for you guys.

The longer I wait to get started, the more I lean from straight fostering to foster/adopt. DH is on board with it. We'll see.
Please change the foster to adopt stuff in my description. Nothing is working in that area-classes are held on the only night I work. Summer classes are 9-5 on Saturdays...we have more to consider than adoption. DH works full time all week, and although he was willing to sacrifice, I hate to see him do it. It's not only about him; we'd be cutting down the kids days with Dad down to one a week Our daughter just turned four and is going through a phase where everything upsets her. She cries when I go to work once a week. She's in the midst of eighteen months of allergy shots for her life-threatening allergy to fire ants, which is stressful for all. Leaving her every weekend for a day isn't going to happen right now.

As for our domestic adoption, I think it's nothing but a pipedream. We applied two years ago. We are nowhere. Personally, I don't think it's insane to wonder why they keep adding families to the minority program if they aren't getting any minority emoms. We are not comfortable risking our family's finances by going with a more expensive agency and even the non-profits cost a fortune when you are five people living on one salary (by choice). We are fertile (as far as we know) and it is getting more and more difficult for me to justify this long wait.

lamama, I hope you find peace in whatever decision you make. *hug*

We are DONE with paperwork, should have a social worker assigned in the next few weeks then interviews and the homestudy visit.

Still here, adoption paperwork filed and we are just waiting for finalization, expected sometime in Sep/Oct. So happy with baby girl.
