posting quotes

but...

what if i don't have the 'file' thing at the type of my screen to pull 'edit and copy' from? how do i cut & paste then?? that's been my problem: i'm not sure what to do after highlighting the quote...and what's up with having a 'quote' button if you don't use it for this act?

The above is exactly what happens with the quote button. If I wanted to I could now delete some of your post, if I only want to discuss one part of it. As for teh cut and paste, are yo sure you don't have these options? What browser are you using?

i use MSN...is that the name of my browser? (i'm getting a book on this stuff tonight...)

and if i use the quote button,do i push it after i highlight the text? i'm gonna try it now...

If you are using the quote button don't highlight anything. Clicking quote will automagically open a "reply" window with the text of the poster you selected already quoted.

I think MSN is a service provider... but it might be a browser too.. I don't know all this stuff. My browser is Netscape, some people use microsoft IE (Internet Explorer)

At teh very top of my screen there is a thin band of blue and it says
Netscape:Mothering dotcommune forums-reply to topic.

Just under that there is a row that reads, left to right: File Edit View Go Communicator

The first two or three are pretty standard on all browsers. To copy and paste I click on EDIT which opens a drop down menu- with cut, copy, paste and several other things as options. It is only possible to click on them if you have some text already highlighted. You'll get it, I'm sure.. It is just hard to explain, you know?

km-- thank you for your help. my screen doesn't look like that, so maybe i'll need to use Internet Explorer to visit the Boards from now on...
