nanny vs. home day care?

In the fall I will need to put my LO who will be a year old in some sort of daycare. My parents have watched him, but they won't be able to any more come fall. So, what are your thoughts/experiences on home daycares vs. a nanny?

We know that we don't want to put him in a center, but we really don't know which will be a better situation. We practice AP, and he is not on any sort of strict schedule, but more of a routine. He does not go to sleep on his own.

Just wondering what others' experiences have been.

A nanny in our home is the only thing that works for us. For a time we even had a nanny with her own infant, and that didn't work out b/c of my AP principles -- she would often leave one or the other to cry while she attended to the other (particularly nap times). Because DS also cant get to sleep by himself very well, the one-on-one nanny care was our only option, and it has been amazingly wonderful. She follows his cues 100% and can give him all the attention he needs. It has the added advantages of 1) he almost never gets sick unless I bring something home to him (I've been working since he was 10 weeks old and he's only had 2 minor colds, both due to me). 2) my nanny cleans up during his naps. 3)I have erratic hours and can thus have her come/go whenever I need to. 4) DS can sleep in in the mornings if I have to go to work early.

We looked at some in home daycares, and they just felt too chaotic for me for an infant/young toddler. And the frequent illnesses they pass around are just miserable. The big pro for them, though, is the cost.

Guess I should have read around a bit before I posted a new thread. Guess that is a part of the "I'm totally freaking out" bit.
