What's in my closet (had to share) - Page 2

StrongBeliever, that is a tough one! I would suggest having work/chore clothes as one of your categories of clothing (so yes, leave the nice jeans for going out clothes, tee hee ). When I worked in our family restaurant and was rough on my things, I would have my church/professional clothes, going out clothes, lounging clothes, and work clothes, so I never felt bad if I messed up something I really liked.

That was my DH not too long ago too. He had like 40 polos and claimed to rotate through them but I know he only wore at the most 7 or 8 because there were shirts in the back of the closet with tags still on. I don't think he even knew they were there. I've been working on him and he's a lot more reasonable now.

Question... In having a much more manageable wardrobe, how do you guys take into account being really tough on clothing? Hubby has a factory job, and we have a functioning farm. Stuff gets stained and ragged. So do you just have the one or two "work" outfits and run them to threads? I think that makes sense... Maybe by the time the work stuff was pooped out some of the nicer stuff would be ready to be demoted to work clothes? I really need to stop wearing my nicer jeans out to do chores.
My DH has a cushy office job and I'm a SAHM so really the only work clothes we have are for around the house work. My DH has a seriously shredded pair of jeans and a nasty T-shirt that we're basically going to chuck in the garbage on the way out of our house when we move. But yeah, that's basically my strategy - wear out the work clothes and when they get too worn out to wear, move down some of the "nicer" clothes and buy a new set of nice clothes.

I talked to my hubby last night about those teal pants... "I'll wear those again! Those were my Easter clothes. I wonder what happened to the pink shirt that went with them?..." EEEK!! I guess I'll just have to get my stuff whittled down and lead by example.

I really like the idea, Barefootscientist, of narrowing things down by color. I've always been drawn to the idea of everything going with everything... Never been one to purchase an outfit that only works with itself and nothing else in the wardrobe. I love the thought of working things down to my favorite colors and styles and eliminating everything that I don't absolutely love or absolutely look good in(with the exception of work clothes). Thanks for the inspiration! It's been another goal of mine to have the majority of my clothes be stuff that I have made myself, but we'll see how that goes. I guess if I get rid of everything I'll real incentive to use all of the pretty fabric I have... Just so I don't have to run around in the buff!
