cueing to pee on the changing table

hi all - my 7 week old was peeing on cue a couple of weeks ago when we started practicing EC. last week she stopped responding to the cue only to resume again this week but only at the changing stable or in a new diaper when she is lying on her back. i couldn't get her to go in the potty or at the sink (maybe it's the way i am holding her?). i was wondering if anyone has had similar experience and has remedies to share.

in addition, maybe i am over-thinking, if i cue her to pee on the changing while she is on her back, will she she would associate the sound with being wet as she would feel the dampness from her urine, which is no different than she peeing into a diaper?

thanks in advance for your help.

If you think she's more comfortable peeing on her back at the moment, then it's fine to cue her in that situation. They do have times when they just don't want to go in a certain position. I'm not quite getting why you are cuing her when she is lying on her back. Is it that you notice her peeing and so you're cuing as she pees? Or you think she's more comfortable peeing that way? It sounds like you are doing fine!

It's totally fine to cue them to pee into a diaper, even if it means that they will end up feeling some of the wetness. Just change it right away and keep talking about what's going on.

p.s. Welcome!!!!! And congratulations!!

Thank you for the response and the welcome.

You are right, I am only making the ptss sound at the changing table b/c she's already going.

I made some adjustments to where the potty is placed and tried to be relaxed when I hold her over it. That seems to have worked better b/c she went twice today and twice yesterday! Woohoo!

That's cool! Sounds like you're doing great! One of the phrases you will see here from time to time is "the receptacle doesn't matter" and it really doesn't matter where they go when they're that young. Cuing while peeing is a great part of EC, and letting them go wherever it is that they are most comfortable is naturally also part of EC.
