s/o of Do you believe in Germ Theory?

Obviously whether or not microbes exist is not really in question, I think the bigger question is how do they make you sick.

You can choose multiple options.

Yes...microbes exsist...they have the potential to make one ill. However I believe the terrein is a more important factor in determining if one becomes ill from said microbe.

This influences me by making me focus on supporting my immune system and keeping my terrein as healthy as possible. Doing this usually means choosing alternative and natural methods of healthcare. Do I think allopathic medicine has it's place...certainly.

I didn't vote as I "believe" pieces of more than 1 theory

less simplistic than the germ theory poll.

But I already did a detailed answer over there and don't have time to do it again.

For some reason only one person has voted on this poll so far.

Koch's postulates: I can't get on board with the idea that disease-causing organisms shouldn't be found in the healthy, considering we host any number of microbes at any given time, without showing symptoms of disease. Or that introducing a microbe will cause disease in a healthy organism. That's terribly outdated and discounts the role of the immune system, as well as the general health of the host.

Host factors, Immunological Response, Immunological Suppression: Yes

Virulence Factors: To an extent, but I believe the state of the host is a key factor in virulence

Infectious Dose: To an extent, mainly with food-born microbes, but I believe the state of the host is a key factor

Miasma Theory: I think its a factor in disease, though not a direct cause. Rates of disease are higher in areas with poor sanitation, and those conditions serve to weaken the host, thereby increasing the host's susceptibility to disease.

I think it could be the challenging nature of the poll: one can believe in a these as a factor in disease, but not a stand-alone theory.

For this thread to remain open in this forum, the discussion needs to remain focused on the issue as it relates to vaccination. Discussions about disease processes or other aspects of health care are hosted in our Health & Healing forum. Should this thread continue along that line of discussion I will move the thread to the appropriate location.

I thought this was posted under the general forum Health. Was it moved here to Vaccinations?

Koch's postulates are more about determining whether or not a microbe is causing a disease, and is not really about the health of any individual. It starts with disease, finds a common thread, and then tries to recreate that disease in healthy individuals by introducing that common thread.

It is more like a large scale logic problem.
