Treating pertussis

Can anyone clarify this for me, please? I have heard that pertussis is best treated with high doses of Vitamin C. How high? In what form? What would be the best way of treating pertussis in kids from one to three years old?

My friend's kids sound like they are in the beginning stages of whooping cough. We had it a few years back, but I did not have the right info, and it went on for quite a while.
