What do you still need?

As kind of a spin off of the "moving fast" thread I thought it might be fun/helpful to tally off what we have so far and what we still need. Making a list always helps me keep my thoughts more organized, and who better to share that list with but you lovely ladies? Not to mention, I'm probably forgetting at least one thing.

Things we have -

Clothing. We've been picking up a lot second hand. We could live with our supply right now, but we'll continue to stock up in these last short months.

Car seat stroller combo. I was going back and forth between a bucket and a convertable seat for this little one. I also wasn't planning on getting a stroller. I'd gotten rid of DD's already and didn't want to spend the $$ on something we use so rarely. But I found a good deal on CL for a Chico Key Fit car seat and stroller combo so I snatched it.

Bumbo, left over from DD.

Boppy, left over from DD.

Some recieving blankets, burp rags, and a few toiletries (diaper cream, lotion, etc.)

Breast pump and a few BPA free breast feeding friendly bottles for those occasional "I need me time or I'm going to die" moments.....lol.

Moby Wrap.

Changing Table. (I'll be surprised if we use this for anything other than storage....lol)

Things we need -

A new bed. We plan on co-sleeping and skipping the crib. Instead we're upgrading our current mattress to a king size.

Diapers. I've been holding off on these because I haven't made a decision about cloth or sposies yet.

Bouncy seat. Okay, really my one kind of non AP splurge because I couldn't have lived without it when DD was a baby. She LOVED it!!! (I'm talking the ones that sit low on the ground and bounce and also have a vibrating feature).

Not exactly a must, but we're looking into getting a mini van before baby arrives. I've tried the car seat arranging thing in my car and it's just not working. Plus DP needs something to haul his band equipment in.

EVERYTHING homebirth related. My midwife just gave me the list of things to have. I'm waiting a little longer for this one, as I don't want to spend the money until we're a little closer to the 37 week mark. But this is on my mind lately, so I might do it sooner.



Okay, so maybe we have more than I thought. Anybody else want to share their list of things to get before baby time?

Oh man. I hate doing this just because it makes me feel like we have NOTHING! This is our first and we're having a shower mid July so I am having to wait until then to see what we end up with.
What we have now is:
*a tiny bit of random clothing (2-3 onesies, a ton of fleece crap that we won't use in the summer at all, 4 pairs of socks, a few sleeper thingies.. some other random stuff too)
*2 bouncy seats - one for home and one for grandparents home.
*teething rings (don't need yet.)
*a dresser for the baby stuff
*disposable diapers that we were gifted (we're ECing so I don't know how many we will use!)
*handmade nursing pillow

What we need/want:
*clothes that will work for seasons
*Moby wrap & later an Ergo
*prefold diapers & snappi
*baby bjorn tiny potty (ECing...)
*wool puddle pad (or something for the bed!)
*nursing clothing/supplies for momma (things like tank tops, creams, breast pads, etc)
*receiving blankets
*washcloths
*towels
*random toiletries
*CAR SEAT
*Belly wrap for me
*home birth stuff (I don't think we'll need much though, thankfully.)
*something to bathe the baby in (we only have a shower too.. DUMBEST THING EVER.)
*laundry soap (I'm thinking soap nuts actually)

Maybes:
*nice breast pump (and storage)
*freezer!

I wish!:
*BOB Stroller.
*hot tub

Um, there is probably a ton of stuff I don't know that I want/need.I want some good books to read. And comfortable clothes for me to wear.

We need nothing. In fact, I am currently in the process of SELLING a lot of the stuff that I bought way too much of in anticipation for her arrival.

We have clothing, various odds and ends that were hand-me-downs or gifts (including swing, bouncy chair, shower seat, bicycle seat, baby tub). We also have a dresser to use for him, and we got a Mei Tai.

Just got the car seat today, just ordered cloth diapers & accessories today.

Still need to get:
- co-sleeper & bedding
- manual breast pump & bottles
- nursing pads / other supplies
- post-partum pads
- maybe a sling
- rocking chair?
- jogging stroller?
- freezer meals

I'll know more after this weekend, when I pull down the itty bitty clothes, but I think I need

*a few more summer newborn clothes -- my brother and his wife are supposed to be loaning us some, though they are acting funny about it now.

* maybe a new bouncy seat -- the one we have is borrowed, and we borrowed it from this friend last time, and it's seen yet another baby since then and it's worn, worn, worn and it was a lifesaver with dd, so I don't want to not have one. I bought my favorite kind for my brother's first baby, assuming I'd get to borrow it when I have my second, but they went and beat us to it and have newborn twins (j/k)

*disposable diapers -- I have a big cloth stash that I failed at using the first time, and I plan to use try harder this time, but I know I'll need at least some sposies

* pack and play accessories -- I think these are somewhere at MIL's house. the babe will be sleeping in this beside our bed (when not in our bed), and I at least need the bassinet part.

* backup formula -- don't flame me, but after the troubles I had the first time, I want to be prepared. I just can't decide what kind to get. I'm apparently the only person on MDC who doesn't get bombarded with samples in the mail

*maybe a new bumper -- I have one that my mom custom-made the first time, but the tabs are falling off. I'm going to try to fix it, and I know we won't need it for months, anyway, but I'm a planner. Geez, bumpers alone are crazy expensive!

* nursing cover-up -- borrowing from a friend

* a pump -- planning to rent one from the lactation boutique for the first month or so; borrowed a friend's last time, but again, it's kind of old and worn now; if all goes well this time, I'll buy something

This has been eye-opening. I didn't actually realize I still needed to do so much!

We still have a lot to get and I really have to get a jump on it soon! A lot of our stuff from DD1 is in storage at the in-laws which they are bringing to us this month, but it's mostly clothes I think.

I have not purchased one thing for this baby yet! Ahh. Honestly, all the money that would have gone to baby stuff has now gone to fighting off the infection and all!

Hopefully, I can just get a car seat, some diapers, and a breast pump before she gets here!! Oh, and hopefully some clothes!! ha. Those might be important... oh geesh I am so unprepared

We built onto our house, which will now include a bathroom (), we almost did a shower unit (no tub). Then I realized, we're planning on having a baby next year, which = bathtime. So glad I thought ahead.

- make a mobile to hang above the changing table/bassinet


I am the last of my group of girlfriends to have a child (all of them have at least two kids by now), so I am blessed in having stuff handed down to me. One friend has 2 boys (we are expecting a boy) and she kept everything, literally! She is a pack rat and its all in her attic. Gonna go raid it here pretty soon.

I knew there was a reason I made this thread. You ladies have reminded me of more things to add to my list. Now I feel like I was having a pregnancy induced brain fart when I wrote my first entry.

More for our 'need' list -

But I also remembered that we do have a baby bjorn potty. We also just bought a rocking/reclining chair from a thrift store that's oober comfy. It will most likely be my nursing chair.

I think that we are pretty good here for the most part.

We have:
*an infant seat borrowed from my sister to bring baby girl home from hospital
*convertible carseat
*plenty of clothes
*lotions/creams/shampoos from couponing and free samples
*breast pump and storage accessories courtesy of wic
*a few boppy pillows leftover from the boys
*baby carriers(pod, mei tei, moby, k'tan, ringsling)

We need:
*to finish my diaper stash. Have more than enough newborn diapers, am still working on covers and one sized and sized diapers
*would like another changing table or bigger chest of drawers for baby girls clothes and diapers
*nursing bras--the ones I had before are stretched out or just too small. I at least would like a few more nursing tanks at the bare minimum
*dresses to make for baby girl
*have grandma crochet/knit baby girl some soakers/shorties/longies skirties--she already made a few pairs of longies--plan on giving her some yarn to make some more since I haven't retaught myself to crochet yet.

I went a little crazy these past few months and got most of what we needed. And I did a lot of sewing. Which was great because my energy levels just dropped down again. But we still need a few odds and ends...

We have:
-Clothing (mostly from older sisters)

-Various Baby Carriers (Ergo, sling, wrap, etc...)
-Home birth kit
-Water birth supplies and pool
-Tons of burp clothes and swaddling blankets

-Cheap shower curtain liners for homebirth/waterbirth needs
-Make frozen pp pads (have supplies, need to wait till we are closer)

-Labor-aide (will make when closer)
-Possibly make more pp cloth (I have found I love velour as opposed to the corduroy topped ones I am using now for pantiliners)

I have a lot from my two previous boys.

I'd like to pick up some more outfits, since I've never had a summer baby.

I'm going to need blankets, since my 2y.o. hoardes them.

I need a bed for my 2 y.o. as he's moving into his brothers room, it's not priority since baby sleeps with us for a while, though I'd like to have everything set up before he arrives.

I'd like to get a new stroller (that will NOT be easy to convince DH) since I'm a bit of a collector and already have several.

I will have to get another car seat since our infant one is at the end of the line.

Another dresser.

Another bookcase (I'm getting several).

A plus sized strap for my Ergo as I've lost mine somewhere.

A new wrap if I can't find mine.



On the plus side, I got the larger vehicle!

We really don't *need* anything. We're set on clothes, we have a bucket seat from DS2, have an extra dresser. We *want* bunk beds, a new convertible seat, a double stroller, and a minivan (but when we get the van we're going to need new carseats for that eventually).

We are blessed to be having a shower thrown for us, and I think it might be this weekend or next weekend (!!!!!!) so I'll know better what we *need* after that. so far, i'm listing it all as it pops into my head. I'm writing comments so when I come back, I remember the great ideas I had... since I forget everything these days.)

Oh, wow, I think I'm in denial about being in the third trimester. Argh... there is so much left to do and I don't feel ready at all (or have any energy to do it... *where* is that nesting energy?).

Need:
*need a good bowl for those newborn catches and nursing catches.

*I'd like to make some more winter EC friendly covers and pull-ups. At least to do the covers out of old sweaters. Like 3 small and 4 medium. Then a few more one-pee, side-snap diapers would be good too.

This thread is great! A while ago I tried to slow my enthusiasm for buying stuff, but now I'm thinking I can let it pick up again

Here are some things I'm thinking I should wait on buying. Anyone think otherwise?

- Co-sleeper, maybe we'll like the bed, maybe she'll be fine in the moses basket? Since I haven't shared a bed with an infant, I just don't know how this will go
- Breast pump (never even breastfed, maybe I should wait to see how that goes before I get a piece of heavy duty equiptment
- Nursing bras (maybe I should wait until week 35 or so to see how big my breasts might get?)
- Nursing pillow (some say the Boppy is useless, others swear by it...I have no idea what I'll need
