U/S @ 6 weeks - what to expect?

So, something just doesn't feel righ... I feel pressure on my crevix and almost like something is going to fall our or pass a blood clot. So, I called my doctor and they are going to fit me in for an u/s sometime tomorrow. I will only be 6 weeks tomorrow so they said it is very early to do one... has anyone had one this early and see a HB?

while you MAY see a heartbeat, more than likely you will not. So do not worry if you don't!

The one thing to be aware of in an early ultrasound is that it is a vaginal one. So, they'll have this phallic shaped wand that they put a condom on (along with lube) and use that to do the u/s. If you're expecting the nice happy tummy u/s, it can be a shocker the first time.

At 6 weeks, they may or may not see a heartbeat. Most likely they'll be looking for a yolk sac, etc.

Isn't THAT the truth! That's definitely not how they show it on all the TV programs! But this early, it's the best way to get a clear picture. Good luck!!!

I had to have a vaginal at my 21 week even! But that was to check proximity of placenta to cervix... never had to have one of those at a later ultrasound before but I have partial previa this time. Luckily I am used to them!

If you are lucky you get a great tech and it isn't even uncomfortable... and none I have had hurt even as bad as a pap smear (and those don't bother me too much)

Yeah - I figured as much. We went through fertility treatments (although this baby was natural) in the fall and had to have them several times a week - even once when I was on my period - now that was UNCOMFORTABLE

I've had 2 u/s at 6 weeks with 2 different pregnancies and they were able to see the hb both times. Sometimes it's still too early, though.

Thanks for the feedback. I am trying not to get my hopes up to hear it and keep telling myself it is ok if they don't see one. As long as they can tell me everything look ok - I will be ok

I'm headed to an early u/s tomorrow as well, to assure me that all these left side cramps are nothing. I'll be 6w4d, I have been telling myself not to get my hopes up on heartbeats and such, but it's hard not to. I'll just be happy to see the liitle gummy bear burrowed in somewhere safe.

I'll check back tomorrow to hear how yours went, I'm sure it will be great.

Yeah, with this pregnancy I thought I was 6w5d but the u/s said 5w6d and we could just barely see the heart beat. It was a very faint little flicker. The tech couldn't get the audio of the heartbeat, either. With dd3 I had a threatened m/c and I was 6 weeks and a couple days and it was very clear and they got it on audio easily. So this early on, even a few days can make a HUGE difference. My guess would be if they can't see the heartbeat yet, they'll have you come back in a week or so.

Good luck
