Airplane travel toys

This summer we're going to be going on vacation to the beach and have about a 4-hour flight. I want to pack a small backpack with things for the plane but the deal is that whatever we take on the plane will be the toys for the vacation as well, so I want them to be something beyond sticky notes and pens, if you know what I mean. What things would you suggest for a 4.5 yo girl besides books? She doesn't have any obsessions and we are Waldorf-inspired, media-free (so no electronics or movies). Thoughts?

She has a lot of your basic travel stuff already--like travel Magnadoodle and playdough, so I'm kind of wanting small and quirky stuff that she's never seen before.

So far, I've found this:

I'm planning on taking markers and paper and books. Other than that, I need help!

ETA: She loves games, so anyone know of any good but small travel games for the age 4 set?

I haven't actually traveled with DS on a plane yet, but I've been looking for things to carry in my bag for when we go places and have to wait - i.e., restaurants, doctor's office, etc. Of course, he's also a lot younger than your little one, but what about some other finger puppets? Relatively small and leave room for lots of open play. We have some of these Manhattan Toy ones and they're darling.

I know you said you already considered sticky notes, but just in case, these are tiny but fun. The inside covers, front and back, serve as the canvas for the stickers held in the middle. Because they are small, they're cheap.

We don't own this travel memory game ourselves, but I've seen it and a lot of other eeboo products recommended on a bunch of sites.

You can also check out these travel game choices from Oompa. I've gotten great service when purchasing from them before. Another great place for travel games is Maukilo (see their bring along games here), but I don't have experience purchasing from them.

GL!

wikki sticks (just a small pack), dover sticker scene little book, a super small playmobil set (like one figure with a few accessories, I think I got one that was a person with a basket, hay & a goat or something like that). More natural, maybe get some wooden peg figures from the craft section with a little box to store them in. One time I made each child a tiny (4x4) soft pillow, called them cuddle pillows & that occupied them for many hours on a car trip. Maybe a crayon roll would be fun... dd spent a lot of time rearranging her crayons when she first got it. A woodkin: http://www.turnertoys.com/W1/woodkin...s-up-dolls.htm I bring a couple playsilks, you can tie them into dollies or use as a blanket if it's chilly. One of those ispy bags from etsy?

I second wiki sticks (or their earlier cousins pipe cleaners).

I highly recommend string games. http://www.mastermindtoys.com/store/...VV3PKEGLW9EGB9

A magnetic doll playboard like this one (you could make your own in advance with something metal with paper over it and some homemade magnet pieces): http://www.mastermindtoys.com/store/...VV3PKEGLW9EGB9

I know it's not Waldorf inspired, but I went to the Target toy aisle and filled up on their travel games and it worked out well. DS is five and we got Connect 4, Barrel of Monkey, travel checkers, a pack of cards to play Go Fish, and travel Sorry. Polly Pockets are small, too. I also got Dot-to-dot books and maze books.

I don't usually buy too many toys, but we've traveled twice this year and these things were a hit.
