poop questions.....

Hi Moms,
Help me out please..... I have a 10 month old almost exclusively BF baby who hasn't pooped for 3 full days. She normally poops a couple of times a day, so this isn't normal for her. She's still peeing all the time, and is only a bit more fussy than normal. Her stomach doesn't seem to be tender, but I'm not a doctor (obviously). She hasn't really started any new foods in the last few days, and is mainly eating fruits and veggies.....
I have read online that it's normal for babies to not go for a few days, but I can't tell if that is it's normal for kiddos to have a pattern of not pooping all the time, or is it normal for kiddos who poop constantly to not poop for a few days?
Thanks for your help,
~maddymama

I have an almost 10 month old and we went through the same thing about a month ago when she started getting more solids down. I freaked out because she didn't poop for a few days, then she would poop the littlest thing. It went on like that for a couple of weeks, but now she seems to have settled in. Now we are getting poops everyday, sometimes multiple times a day!

Is she on any iron supplements or anything? Drinking enough?

Giving her some magnesium-rich foods should help soften her bm's and relax the muscles so she can go.

hth!

Could it be that more sweating because of the warming weather is using up some of the water that was making her poop so often?

DS was always a multiple times a day pooper and if he ever went more than one day without pooping, I'd take his temp rectally. He always pooped within 1 hour of me doing that. Maybe give that a try?

Hi Mamas,
OP here:
no iron supplements or anything, will try magnesium rich foods tomorrow...
Could be the sweat, it's warm here (mid to upper 90s) but I'm trying to nurse her much more often to make up for it. She's still peeing alot.
DH and I have tried to take her temp rectally a couple of times today and no dice.

She's not tooting, either, which is kind of making me nervous, too....

OP, make sure you are staying hydrated as well. I'm sure you've already thought of that though.

OP here:
Took DD into the peds this am after a rough night of her being uncomfortable and not sleeping. Ped. recommended a glycerine suppository, which took about 30 miutes to work. Everything is fine now... thanks for all of your advice.

I'm glad that DD is feeling better.

My DD does not poop everyday, but that is normal for her. I was really concerned about it at first, but it is a pattern that she has fallen into. I would continue to go with your mommy intuition and keep an eye on her.
