Thank you for your post. Also, I have the same therory on dirt. I use the term "yucky dirty" with my 19 month old. I have to be careful and try to teach DS the difference because there are things I do not want him even touching. For example, my husband does a lot of metal work and no matter how hard we try to clean it up, there are always little metal shavings mixed in with the garage grime.

Nope. I'm not hyper vigilant about handwashing whenever we come in contact with shopping carts, etc. either.
I keep herbal and homeopathic remedies on hand, I understand the mechanics of sickness and how the body will/can react when things are 'normal sick' and 'totally not normal sick'. I address each of my kids diferently-they all react differently to sickness. I try not to fear a cold or a fever-I just pay attention and if (God forbid) it needs to be addressed in means beyond me I will be the first to head to a doc to get an opinion.
I think how we react to sickness or dirt (and I do agree about hte good dirt yucky dirt thing-yard dirt is one thing, mall dirt quite another!)teaches our kids how to react to their bodies when they are sick and/or well. I explain to them why they are taking this or that, or why they need extra water or to rest. (age appropriately of course). I want them to be aware but not afraid.
I don't freak about them being non vaccinated. I think there is a lot more to health than a shot or not a shot...hope that helps!
