Anyone doing Calvert?

Hi,
Is anyone here doing Calvert homeschool curriculum? I'm considering it for my son who will be in grade 6 next year. It appeals because it looks quite 'academic'. Any experiences?

Thanks!!

I only did K through an online school. Have you tried the link up through the calvert web site? They will try to find someone close to you either using calvert or using the specific grade of calvert that you are interested in.

If you find an online school that uses it you could try it for free. I heard it was hard, and few in any material was online. I found the K to be ok.Decent textbooks and workbooks.Materials were so-so.

If it was all we had around here I would use it and just supplement with whatever I thought was lacking or disagreed with.

I'm on my third year with Calvert, and I really like parts of it. I can only speak to the younger levels though. I particularly think the math is good. Dd (2nd grade level) is reading fluently now, and generally can read the instructions and figure out what to do without any help from me at all. I take that as a good sign - if a book can explain concepts well enough for a 7/8 yo to understand, it works for me.

Honestly, I'm less impressed with the other stuff. The Science (at younger levels anyhow) was lame, as was the handwriting. The spelling was okay.

If I had to pay for this all myself (we get it through an online charter) I'd happily pay for the math book but that's it.
