OW! *THIS* loseto weaning! :(

Jude has 2 teeth on the bottom and is currently getting in SIX along the top (yes all at once, and yes it's been HELL!). He keeps biting me every time he nurses. He clamps down as hard as he can then pulls his head back until there's no nipple left. I've tried a nipple shield and it doesn't help. I keep gently unlatching him when he does it but he doesn't seem to get the hint. Other than weaning and pumping (which is also extremely painful for me, which is weird because all I did for the first 2 weeks was pump) is there anything I can do besides continue to be bit?

eta - err, title should be "close to" not "loseto". Oh well.

Teething biting is the worst.

Watch CLOSELY for signs that he's about to bite- if you see them, unlatch before he has a chance.

Keep your finger at eh side of his mouth to be ready to unlatch quickly if he starts biting.

Sometimes it helps to pull them toward you when they do that, makes them let go faster (and keeps them from stretching the nipple out with their teeth... )

AND tell him not to bite. yours is only one day younger than my son, and i know that if my son were biting (so far he has no teeth!) i would definitely tell him "no biting" in a serious tone, and remove him. maybe get up and set him down momentarily to make your point. then try it again, saying, "remember nursing only, no biting". and if he does it without biting, then say, "good boy, no biting, good nursing."
