When do you plan to begin solids & what will the first one be? - Page 2

We did 6 and 8 months here--just waited until they were ready.

As for first foods, we stuck with "A" for avocado. Second was B for bananas, nad third was C for carrots. LOL

DS1's first 'food' was the bits of leftover tacos on my plate ~7.5 months. DS2? I honestly don't know. Probably rice or something. He's nearly 10 months now and eats little bits of literally whatever we're eating, just like ds1 did. Today, so far, he's had cheerios, bits of chicken, bits of strawberry, avacado, apple fritter , bits of joe-joe's (big thick french fry type things)... umm.. I think thats it. Last night he had dinner twice - once w/ my & DS1 (pudding, cheee sticks, toast w/ nutella, strawberries, cherries...), and once w/ dh (leftover lamb), and then he insisted on bites of my grapefruit later on... Tisn't fair he already insists on sharing whatever I'm eating!!

I was so of the school: wait as long as possible, maybe past a year, and all that!!! Ha Ha... my little one got her first tastes just past 5 months. I was eating a plate of organic orange slices and she grabbed for them. I cut a smaller piece and let her pick it up herself. she sucked the juice off her fingers and kept protesting if she dropped it. In the next few days I let her try some other organic fruits: apricot, pear, and cantalope. She self fed all of them, meaning she picked them up or held them in her hand. I gave her pieces she could lick, taste, but she didn't actually bite or eat anything substantial so far.

It has been really fun! We made a big deal of the oranges and several friends came to cheer her on: we all made a celebration of her first food beyond breastmilk.

I am in no hurry though. Now she has tasted other food, I think I will keep it to raw, organic vegetables and fruits for a while and see where we go from there. I don't see that she is getting any substantial nutrition from other food for sometime to come, so it is more a matter of experiencing foods, tastes, and how to pick up and handle food. I will let her guide me to when she is ready to ingest more...

Around 6 months- Pizza crust. She grabbed it right out of my hand and started sucking/chewing on it.

I think I baked her a yam or a squash (One or the other, I don't remember) the next day.

Its up to him really!
When he meets all the required areas (such as sitting up unassisted, etc) - then I will wait until he shows an interest. I picture this happening when he reaches for something and eats it! lol So who knows what that may be! If he does that, then I will start to offer him lovely healthy things. I can see avocado being first on the list! I can't really say how old he will be though!...It could be 6 months, 8 or even past a year! It will happen when it happens - when he is ready!

My kids all had bananas as their first food. But they started at different ages-- DD1 was about 6 1/2 months, but it was a long, long time before she ate more than a bite a day. DD2 was barely seven months, I think, but she took to the food right away and was and still is an eager eater. I am not confident about the exact age she was-- I might be remembering wrong. DS I waited a lot longer, because I was waiting for him to be able to sit alone, and he was nearly eight months before he sat reliably. He also took to food very eagerly.

I remember with the twins the early foods they ate were banana, sweet potato, egg yolk, yogurt, avocado, and applesauce.

DD1 ate commercial baby food, so it was different with her. I hadn't learned about baby-led weaning then. She did, however, soundly reject the baby cereals, so we wound up skipping those.
