Charlie's Soap

Thread Starter
I just bought some Charlie's soap and it says on there it does not disinfect. In the GMD papers I got it said you have to add oxygen bleach. Is this necessary or is drying on hot/sun drying ok enough? Is there anything besides expensive oxiclean stuff I can use to disinfect as well?

A few drops of Tea Tree Oil in a load of diapers does wonders. A little goes a long way.

I use it and don't have a need to do the disinfecting really. I have added bleach a couple times hoping to help with rash (thinking they needed disinfecting) but that wasn't the issue. (Turned out she was allergic to something I was eating)

Anyhow, I would either use sun oxygyn (off brand of oxyclean and is only like $ 1.99 for a tub), tea tree oil, or a T of bleach. (what I use)

Hope that helps, I love Charlies soap!

I just use Charlie's...but I heard you can use a few drops of Biokleen Bac-Out with it.

I use Charlie's all the time, with no disinfectant product added. I was using Bac-Out, but I used AIO's and Pockets and the Bac-Out can damage the PUL (according to the manufacterer, I've personally not had a problem when I've used it). I love Charlie's for all our laundry and recently ran out and had to use Seventh Gen and was so sad! I didn't realize how much I enjoy NOT smelling like a "fragrance".

Anyway, my diapers rarely repell or smell, and if they do a few good hot water washes and rinses without soap does the trick.

Good luck!

I think the trick for loving Charlies (at least for me) was to give it time to get all the old detergent build up out so you can see the full results. I remember in the beginning I thought my laundry had a odd smell and they weren't the cleanest I have ever seen or the softest, but after about a bag and a half I was like wow now I see what people rave about! Now my clothes smell like clean cotton, I don't even have to use anything for stains and they are softer than ever.

I know this is a bit off topic, but where do you all buy charlie's soap? This board is the first I've heard of it....

Either here or just google Charlies Soap and you will find tons of places that sell it. Some natural food stores and other small business see it as well.

I love charlie's soap but I wish it would have non chemical fragrance in it. Wish that there are choices to choose from, non-fragrance or fragrance.

We've always used only Charlie's on our fuzzi bunz for 15 months and once a month we use oxyclean (or something like that - I forget the exact name) and we've had to use Dawn two or three times for stripping, but otherwise, we don't use anything else and it has worked fine for us.
