Removing chlorine from hose water to fill kiddie pool

Thread Starter
I bought a small kiddie pool today to fill for 3 yo DS on hot days. However, I do not want him sitting in tap water for an hour a day, absorbing all that chlorine and whatnot!!! We have a bath filter that I have to sit and hold in place while the bath runs--so don't plan on doing that for a pool!

So I am looking at garden hose filters.

Does anyone have a better idea OR see a problem with this?

BTW: we will fill it right before using it, use it on and off for 1-4 hours, then dump on grass, plants, etc. I am not too concerned about bacteria and germ growth in just a few hours (not too concerned about that topic anyway, within reason)

Thanks!

If you let it sit for a while before using, most of the chlorine will dissipate quite rapidly, especially in the sun. Pools need another chemical in addition to chlorine to keep the chlorine in the pool.

I fill watering cans directly from the hose bib (no hose attached) and let them sit for awhile before watering the plants. The chlorine smell dissipates very quickly that way. It'll dissipate in a wide open kiddie pool quickly.

Filling from a hose will add other issues, like lead, to the equation.

There really is no perfect world. Pick and choose what is most important to you and move on with life.

I have seen filters that attach to garden hoses to remove the various chemicals common in them. I also came across someone that used fish tank charcol. They placed it in a food net or cloth and ran the water through that.Just have to make sure you rinse off the loose charcol particles first.

Make sure your hose has a safe for drinking label on it...not that you would drink from it,but it would mean less toxins in the hose plastic.

I had fish die one time when I replaced pond water.Frogs tolerated hose water better.

Chlorine evaporates. Fill it the day before you're gonna let him use it.

Just fill it first thing in the morning. By the time it's warm enough to want to go in, almost all of the chlorine will have evaporated. Hoses are not wonderful, so if your little one drinks the kiddy pool water I would reccomend you get a potable water hose to fill it with (like for an RV).
