I thought I was the only one that didn't want a waterbirth too. My midwife kind of rasies her eyebrows when I mention it and seems to insist that "most" women get in the tub at somepoint. But, the tub is not my favorite place. I don't mind it is the water is super hot and steamy (not likely in a birth tub nor in my oversized bath tub) but the thought of my hair getting wet and feeling cold when I get out is NOT appealing. My last birth in a hospital, a tub was offered during labor but it was really the last place I wanted to go. Like the previous posts - I just wanted to feel firm and steady - not floating in water that might get me cold.

earthbirthing leo here too!

but I really do plan to use the tub for labour...dp would love for me to birth in the tub, he's very concerned about the bodily fluids in our bed thing (despite my explanations...it's his first birth, my second).

I had a water birth with my son and I really think it helped prevent tearing with my 10.5 lb boy. But with this one I don't see myself delivering in the pool...I don't know why though. I think I'll still labor there though.

I just had my baby 4 weeks ago a UC birth.. I had the tub filled with water but I found that being in the water with full on transitional contractions that being submerged (I have a extra large tub) made them worse.. I got out as fast as I could and a land birth I had.. LOL At first it made me feel like I was the only person in the world who didnt like being in the water.. As I found out from other people diffrent labors call for diffrent things.. You may like it one time but not the next...

I had a birth pool for my first birth but in the end she came too fast and it was never set up. It was a pretty easy labor overall and I didn't feel like I missed out on anything by not using the water. I didn't really care one way or the other for my second but did have the pool again. I got in, felt like pushing two contractions later, and he was born in about 5 minutes. I never got to relax so I can't say the water helped at all, plus I had a second degree tear so can't say the water helped that way either.

For this birth I don't really care either way about a waterbirth. If it happens that's fine and if not that's fine too. BUT I do want to have a birth pool available, because I'd like to do more laboring in the water. I never really relaxed at all the whole labor with my second and I think it would have been less intense if I had gotten into the water earlier and been able to relax. I don't see just a bathtub being very comfortable during labor though.

I'm not really interested in giving birth in water. I would like to labor in our nice warm bathroom tub but I don't think I would want to give birth in the tub. I won't know for sure until the time comes since this if my first home birth.

My midwives are really big on waterbirth, about 70% of their deliveries are in the water. I was kinda 'meh' on the whole thing, I just always pictured myself having a land birth, although I found being in the shower during labor heavenly, and ordinarily I am a huge bath person. As it turned out I couldn't have a waterbirth with my first as I ended up in hospital with an epi (long story), but since I didn't have any expectations for water birth it didn't matter to me.

This time same thing, I'm all for having a shower or being in the tub during labor, I plan to play it by ear, we will see how I feel at the time. I don't intend to make any special arrangements with a birth pool or anything, fortunately I have a big oval bathtub and if it's not comfortable I don't care too much. My main motivator to maybe do it is that I tore so badly last time and I'd really really like to avoid that again.
