What is your toddler toy wishlist?? Need ideas for MIL to by kids

I have a baby turning 1 and need toy ideas I do have a 2,4, and 9 yr old so toys that work with mulit ages are good but they are for my MIL to buy for my soon to be 1 yr old's B-day. She will buy tons of battery powered plastic crap if I don't steer her in the right direction with links. I am not apposed to plastic toys I just prefer toys that require thought and quality toys. any suggestions would be helpful I am at a loss right now we already have

A wood treehouse
lots of blocks
and playsilks

thanks so much

Hi Betsy!

If you ask for playsilks, I recommend getting some plain undyed ones from Dharma Trading Company and then dyeing them yourselves. E LOVED that project and I'm guessing your ODS and DD would love it too. We used koolaid for dyeing.

other things - do you have a doll house? E's godfathers picked up an incredible bookshelf dollhouse from the barewoods place that is going out of business - they might have another one - again i'll bet your older kids would have a blast painting it for your YDS and everyone can play with it.

Another thing e loved @ 1 and still loves are large scale cardboard blocks.

Also at ikea they have a really cute barn with stuffed animals that is very inexpensive and has been a huge hit for E.

My kids both like wooden blocks, their easel, and all the Bruder toys. (The Bruders are plastic, but very well-made and good for a lot of different ages). I have a 1 and a 2 1/2 y/o and they use most of the same toys.

Duplo legos. They are a big hit here! I do daycare and all the older kids love them too. Also since they are mainstream you MIL probably won't balk!

DD´s favorite toys:

Dollhouse (we have a little people one that we found used for cheap... basically little people anything she loves)
Wooden Puzzles... Her favorite now is a jigsaw one even though she can´t put it together herself yet
Dolls... especially ones that she can dress herself, take in the bath, and are anatomically correct (she gets freaked out by cloth ones)
Books... we can never have enough, ever
Art Easel/Coloring books/Play dough
Balls
Stickers
Ride on toys... she has one already but she´s currently obsessed with bikes and we might look into a blance bike soon.
Puppets... we have a Melissa and Doug one that´s a monster with interchangeable parts, that was a HUGE hit

Over here we dig anything musical, blocks, and books. Ds loves kitchen stuff, like play foods and pots and pans. Also a big hit is kid size gardening tools, shovels buckets etc. so he can play around outside.

How about outdoor toys, for digging and pouring and blowing bubbles? A sand/water table? Art supplies?

This Sprig Discover Rig is pretty awesome. It plays music and lights up, but it is all kid powered, no batteries! My 17 month old and my 4 year old love it.

On my wish list would be nice musical instruments. We have a M&D set that is just okay. I'd like them to have some things that are higher quality and more real.
