A freckle?

I found something on my 6 month old DD's forehead. It looks like a freckle. It wouldn't come off in the bath, I just thought it was a speck of dirt. I first noticed it couple of days ago. It's not raised. I've always heard babies shouldn't have freckles untill at least a year old. I found that a dermatologist should be consulted. It obviously made me really nervous. She's not out in the sun, we spend pretty much all of our outside time in the shade. She hadn't bean wearing her hat in the shade though...and I wonder if that's why she got a freckle??? Did I just let that happen to my baby???

Is this something I should call about to our pedi? We don't do WBV as we don't vaccinate; we do all her measurements at home.

Have your babies developed any freckles/moles early on? Should I be alarmed?

Thank you.

My DD1 didn't have any freckles or skin marks at all until after her third birthday. Then I started noticing a few on her arms and face.

DD2 was born with a large spot (mole? freckle?) on her leg and none others...but she has had a few small freckles developed before her first birthday.

I have no idea if it is normal or not but I haven't even thought to worry about it.

My DS has two freckles now. The first was on the top of his head, and I too thought it was a speck of dirt. I first noticed that one around 11 months. Now he has another freckle on his temple at 14 months. I do take him out in the sun quite a bit, but never longer than 15 min without sunscreen. I figure it's just his genes. I'm a middle complected person with lots of freckles and moles - even in places that don't ever see the sun. I'm not worried about it.

My son developed 2 hemangiomas at a few months old that started out looking like a freckle, but got larger over time. The face is a common place for a hemangioma to develop. Not saying that's what it is, but one possibility. When my son's started, it was a little red dot that gradually got larger, then stopped growing and they have both now completely resolve (I think, haven't looked recently and one is on his upper thigh).

My son (10 mos) has three moles that i have found so far. One on his forehead and two on his arm. I'm not really worried as both DH and I are moley. (Everytime I think/write that, I think about Fred Savage in Austin Powers ) Anyway, I wouldn't really be worried unless it changes color, shape, size, all the things that we're supposed to look for in ourselves too.

Are you or your DH "freckle people"? DS got his first (and so far, only) freckle when he was about 6 months...right behind one ear. I freckle easily and have several so I never thought anything about it.

our dd has had a faint mole for a while on her cheek. we are very very dotty people, though, i have moles everywhere and dh is a speckled egg. if it were me, i'd just keep an eye on it and only do anything if it grew at all.
not wearing a sunhat is not the cause, i'd be willing to say. i'm one of those bad mommies who let the baby get sunburned accidentally, and we aren't more speckled than before. but we're doing sunhat all the time now.

Our DS developed a small freckle/mole on the side of his torso at about 2 mo of age. I couldn't believe his pure, white virgin body all of a sudden had a mole on it!

I thought those were sun induced. His ped said it was normal. I had also asked my dermatologist about it at one of my appts for a skin check, and he also confirmed that it's perfectly normal.

I wanted to say thanks to all of you, I feel so much better! DH has a lot of freckles and moles, I don't as much. I will just keep an eye on this one.
