Worried about ten month old's eating habits???

I think my baby ate more than I did today...

I EBF my oldest for 9 months, and she didn't wean until I got preg. with #2. When she was 10 months old, she was just starting out with solids.

I started out breastfeeding little one, but knew right away that something was wrong with her. She would projectile vomit every time she nursed, and threw up EVERYTHING. I tried every elimination diet I could find, but nothing helped her. At 3 months, she had gained 15 oz, and everyone was so worried about her that I was forced to try formula. It was instantly better... I still BFed her for 3 months, but every time, she would get violently ill. I stopped completely at 7 months. At 6 months I started her on solids. She had been gradually increasing the amount until about two weeks ago. She is eating non-stop. Today she ate a whole turkey sandwich in one sitting. Two pieces of bread, two pieces of turkey, cheese, sprouts, avocado, lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, black olives, and pickles. She also ate a caprese salad, potato salad, salmon, cous cous, spinach, and an apricot. She had two bottles, didn't drink two bottles that were made for her, and a bottle of water. Holy cow, what is up with this? I don't even know what age babies stop getting formula... I assumed it was 2.5 because that's when my oldest weaned herself from breastmilk...

Does this seem wrong to you? She ate more than me and more than her 4 year old sister. She is big too... For all the weight that she didn't gain in the first few months of life, she has more than made up... But not huge... I guess that is relative, since we are a small bunch. Both DP and I are shorter and thinner than average. She weighs 20lbs, 1oz... I know that isn't too big for a 10 month old, but compared to the rest of the family, believe me, that is huge.

That sounds like an awful lot of food, though I don't know the quantities eaten of each one that you mentioned. Was it a few bites of each, etc?

Perhaps it would be a good idea to have her checked out by her ped to make sure all is well. Something (i.e. thyroid or other hormones) could be out of whack. Better to be safe...You don't want to set her up to overeat and end up with all sorts of health issues, not to mention obesity.

most people who give formula stop with it around 12 months, and then go on to cow's milk. the main reason being that formula is ungodly expensive, and cow's milk is (relatively) cheap.

i assume you are going to WBVs, and just had one at 9 months? was all well there? and you never figured out why she seemed "allergic" to your breastmilk?

now, if you have been going to WBVs, did she ever "fall off the chart" for weight during the early days when she gained 15 ounces in three months time? and where is she on the charts as of 9 months?

it sounds like you are offering her nutritious food, and is she self feeding it all, then?

i'm no expert but i have an almost 9 month old who was off the charts skinny at his six month appointment, and i have since then introduced solids a la BLW (table food right from the start, no mush). he is a pretty hearty eater as well. he went through a phase where he could devour a large quantity too. he gained a pound in a week. he has since slowed down on the eating, but in the almost three months that he's been getting food that he self feeds, he's put on nearly five pounds -- he's gone from 13 pounds at six months to 18 as he nears 9 months.

i'm not worried about my son. he's also incredibly active, crawling, pulling up, standing momentarily, basically never stops moving. so i'm pretty sure he needs his calories. he still nurses on demand as well.

She was off the charts at three months, and thats why I decided to ff... The formula that I am giving her is for allergies/ sensitivity, and it say up to 24 months... No one could tell me why she wasn't tolerating my breastmilk... Breastfeeding was so easy for me... I don't like to say she's allergic, because I know that it is nearly impossible for a child to be allergic to breastmilk, I still don't understand it... She is very active, and she does entirely self feed. I gave her a bit of "mush" foods, like mashed potatoes and parsnips a few months ago, but I mainly started out with mushy food, such as avocado and banana. We see a naturopath, not a typical ped, but he specializes in babies and children... I loved him with my big girl, since she was always so healthy, but with the little one, I am worried because he doesn't seem to worry AT ALL. The most worry I got from him is when he was urging me to ff. (He is a very pro BF dr. and 70% of his babies are still BF at a year, if that says anything.) She is at the high end of the chart now, but I was little, DP is little, DD1 is little, and DD2 was born at 44 weeks and was under 7 lbs. She does eat healthily, but that is because she eats what we eat, not 'baby food'.

DD1 rarely gets raw cows milk, and mainly drinks goat's milk, but It worries me giving a 1 year old any type of 'real milk'.

I had a friend pump for me for a little while, and dd wouldn't tolerate her BM either, and she eats all gluten free food, She seems healthy, but certainly has a more sensitive respiratory system than DD1 who was purely BF.
