Outgrowing dipes, but not...

So this is a conundrum. Right now the bulk of our stash is M Dream-Eze (which are snapped on the smallest setting and still a bit big in the leg), and Little Beetle Hemp Original size 1 (which were also snapped on the smallest overlap setting until this week). My main problems being that the Little Beetles are super low rise on him anymore (think plumber's crack), and in the last few days they're starting to be sopping wet really quickly (even with an extra doubler), so I think we've outgrown their absorbency (and their rise). But he's too skinny to move up to the size 2s we have.

We're having similar problems with many dipes... we only moved into the M DEs because of absorbency - the smalls still fit. Same with the Loveybums. Here's the rub. Most front-snapping dipes do not have tight enough leg elastic to contain a poo when they're snapped on him on the tightest setting. Which is why I like side-snapping dipes. But even the side-snappers aren't fitting him right at the moment because he is so tall and skinny. I really like the SBish pin dipe for exactly that reason, but DH won't use them (lay in doublers and pins both baffle him). PFs aren't absorbent enough either, I just got some GMD red edge and a single pee soaks them.

I have over 60 dipes for sale on DS right now because I've tried and had them not work, and I'm really at the end of my rope (and my budget). Does anyone have any brilliant suggestions for a really tall (long rise) skinny tummy and skinny legged guy who is stuck between a Sm and Med (he's 8 mos and about 25 lbs)? Smalls don't have enough absorbency/high enough rise and Mediums are too big. We stick to natural fibers because of sensitivity issues...

At this point I'm about ready to let him run naked - if only he didn't scream when I bring him near the potty.

Have you tried one size diapers yet? I have BumGenius diapers and I put them on my 18 month old and my 2 month old and the only time my 2 month old leaks is if for some reason she didn't not get changed when she ate. My 18 month old NEVER leaks! Sadly though I think he is getting ready to out grow his BG's

I really like megaroos and find them to be quite absorbant. She does have lay in soakers available and will sew them at the top if you prefer. I pin them, DH snappies both with a jelly roll and we get a great fit on our skinny girl.

DD is 16 months and is not quite 18 pounds and 33 inches. i bought the premiums and fold the rise down. They should last till potty learning no problem but she does do a mid range size that will probably work for you too.

I can't say enough good things about these diapers!

While I don't have a tall and skinny baby, ds has alternated from tiny preemie size to super chubster (22in waist at 6mos!!!) to scrawny toddler. He's almost 3, yet waist and thigh wise he's in 18 mos size stuff. In covers, his thighs are perfect in smalls, too much shifting in mediums. I also had to use side snapping diapers due to this.

For the super peeing. I found that a prefold plus either a flat folded rectangularly onto the wet zone, or two cotton doublers (I only have these ones http://www.clothdiaper.com/PRODUCTS/...annel-6-pack_2) OR a small microfiber cloth (from Walmart, the 'rag' bag in the auto section which is good size--about a hand towel size) trifolded.

Due to poop issues, I stick these on the outside of the snappied prefold in the soaker zone. Then put on the cover. I hate spraying off a pooped on doubler with all the folds.

It makes it a bit bulkier (flat being bulkiest, microfiber towel being trimmest) but it makes all the difference between holding pee and not. It doesn't get in the way of him moving around either.

hth!

ETA: I find that the generic prefolds are made for skinny and tall babies. GMD's are good for chunkier shorter babies. Ds is only 30lbs right now, but due to skinniness, can easily fit into a folded down premium prefold, something that when he was 6mos chunkster couldn't happen. Maybe scale up the prefold to increase absorbency. With it folded down in the back it's really not bulky at all.

Try SoftBums! The leg elastic sizing system uses toggles so an infinite number of settings. They work really well for skinny legs (or chunky legs). The are also an AI2 so you can reuse the covers. They are definitely the best OS I've ever used.
